Simulation methods of cotton pyrolysis based on ReaxFF and the in fl uence of volatile removal ratio on volatile evolution and char formation

Adili Batuer et al.

Summary: The influence of volatile removal ratio on cotton pyrolysis characteristics was studied using a simulation model. Results showed that higher volatile removal ratios led to chars with lower O and H contents, closer to practical chars, with 80% and 100% VRR simulations having a higher probability to match reality.

Effects of OH concentration and temperature on NO emission characteristics of turbulent non-premixed CH4/NH3/air flames in a two-stage gas turbine like combustor at high pressure

Kapuruge Don Kunkuma Amila Somarathne et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of OH concentration and temperature on NO emissions in turbulent, non-premixed methane/ammonia/air swirl flames at high pressure. Utilizing far-rich equivalence ratios could significantly reduce NO emissions from CH4/NH3 flames. Local flame characteristics were found to be qualitatively similar to NH3/air flames, but temperatures and OH concentrations decreased gradually with NH3 substitution.

ReaxFF study on combustion mechanism of ethanol/nitromethane

Liang Song et al.

Summary: Reactive molecular dynamics simulations were used to investigate the high-temperature oxidation of ethanol/nitromethane fuel, revealing that the C-N bond cleavage of nitromethane and dehydrogenation of ethanol are the dominant pathways. Active species such as NO2, NO, and OH significantly influence the oxidation mechanism of ethanol.

ReaxFF simulations of the synergistic effect mechanisms during co-pyrolysis of coal and polyethylene/polystyrene

Dikun Hong et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the co-pyrolysis behaviors of Zhundong coal with polyethylene (PE) and polystyrene (PS) using reactive molecular dynamics simulation. The results show that coal promotes primary decomposition of PE at low temperatures but has little effect on PE pyrolysis at high temperatures. Meanwhile, PE and PS significantly promote coal char decomposition at high temperatures, with polystyrene having a more pronounced effect than polyethylene.

High-temperature pyrolysis of isoprenoid hydrocarbon p-menthane using ReaxFF molecular dynamics simulation

Yutong Wang et al.

Summary: The pyrolysis chemistry of p-menthane was investigated using ReaxFF molecular dynamics simulations, revealing that the scission of isopropyl and the ring-open reaction adjacent to isopropyl are key steps in p-menthane decomposition. Important product generation and consumption pathways were tracked, and a detailed reaction scheme was proposed. The apparent activation energy calculated from simulations matched experimental results, demonstrating the effectiveness of using ReaxFF simulations to explain and extend previous experimental studies.

A simplified kinetic model based on a universal description for solid fuels pyrolysis: Theoretical derivation, experimental validation, and application demonstration

Tianbao Gu et al.

Summary: The establishment of a universal description for solid fuel pyrolysis reaction mechanisms and the proposal of a simplified kinetic model with only one kinetic parameter are the key contributions of this study. Experimental studies validate the new model and show its consistency with conventional models. Additionally, the new model demonstrates significant variations in activation energies with conversion degree and heating rate.
