Carbon Monoxide in Main-Group Chemistry

Shiori Fujimori et al.

Summary: The usage of carbon monoxide as a C1 feedstock for carbonylation has evolved significantly over the years, with transition-metal carbonyl complexes historically being dominant. However, main-group elements have gained attention for their eco-friendly nature and low toxicity.

Reductive Hexamerization of CO Involving Cooperativity Between Magnesium(I) Reductants and [Mo(CO)6]: Synthesis of Well-Defined Magnesium Benzenehexolate Complexes**

Albert Paparo et al.

Summary: The reactions of magnesium(I) compounds with CO lead to the formation of magnesium benzenehexolate complexes with the help of [Mo(CO)(6)], which is required to initiate or catalyze the process. These reactions may serve as useful homogeneous models for elucidating the mechanism of benzenehexolate complex formation and studying other C-C bond forming reactions using CO as a feedstock.

Bis-Cyclooctatetraenyl Thulium(II): Highly Reducing Lanthanide Sandwich Single-Molecule Magnets

Jules Moutet et al.

Summary: Divalent lanthanide organometallics are highly reducing compounds known for single electron transfer reactivity and small molecule activation. This study presents a rare organometallic sandwich compound of divalent thulium with the cyclooctatetraenyl ligand, introducing it as an additional strategy for designing high-performing Single Molecule Magnets. The first divalent thulium sandwich complex with f(13) configuration behaves as a single-molecule magnet even in the absence of a DC field.

Lithium Dicyclohexylamide in Transition-Metal-Free Fischer-Tropsch Chemistry

Maotong Xu et al.

Summary: The reaction of lithium dicyclohexylamide with syn-gas or CO generates transient intermediates with carbene character, capable of further reacting with CO or H-2 to promote C-C and C-H bond formations, providing a transition-metal-free route for fundamental Fischer-Tropsch process reactions. Experimental and computational data suggest that reactions with CO and H-2 are thermodynamically feasible, with a kinetic preference for CO homologation.

Reductive Dimerization of CO by a Na/Mg(I) Diamide

Han-Ying Liu et al.

Summary: Sodium reduction of [{SiNDipp}Mg] leads to the formation of [{SiNDipp}MgNa](2), which features a long Mg-Mg bond enhanced by persistent Na-aryl interactions. The computational assessment suggests that this molecule should be considered as a contiguous tetrametallic core, supported by its reaction with CO to form ethynediolate mediated by dissimilar metal centers.

Linear Hydrocarbon Chain Growth from a Molecular Diruthenium Carbide Platform

Jun Ohata et al.

Summary: In this study, the stepwise growth of linear hydrocarbon chains and their conversion to longer homologues were demonstrated on a molecular diruthenium carbide platform. The key to this chain homologation sequence was the selective hydrogenation of the allene unit to the alkylidene ligand, facilitated by the diruthenium platform, enabling the synthesis of up to C-6 chains.

Reactions of aluminium(i) with transition metal carbonyls: scope, mechanism and selectivity of CO homologation

Summary: This paper reports a homogeneous model system that constructs carbon chains from CO, showing a broad reactivity range and proposing a complete mechanism for chain growth. Variation of the transition metal fragment impacts both the rate of the steps of chain growth and the selectivity of carbon chain growth.

Summary: In this study, the reduction potentials of a series of Cp'(3)Ln complexes with different lanthanide elements were determined electrochemically. The results showed a clear trend in the reduction potentials of Ln(iii)/Ln(ii) ions, indicating different stabilities among different lanthanide ions.
