Unusual synthesis of safflower-shaped TiO2/Ti3C2 heterostructures initiated from two-dimensional Ti3C2 MXene

Nghe My Tran et al.

Summary: A unique microscale safflower synthesis consisting of TiO2/Ti3C2 heterostructure nanorods was developed through sequential in-body transformation. The morphology, structural components, and properties of the heterostructures were significantly influenced by heat treatment conditions, and the synthesized heterostructures exhibited semiconductor behavior with superb photocatalytic efficiency.

Semi-metal 1T' phase MoS2 nanosheets for promoted electrocatalytic nitrogen reduction

Xuesong Xu et al.

Summary: In this study, urchin-like TiO2 hollow nanospheres were constructed by hydrothermal targeted etching and used as a substrate for loading semi-metal 1T'-MoS2 nanosheets, showing outstanding NRR activity. The excellent performance is attributed to the high conductivity of 1T'-MoS2 and the unique structure of TiO2 hollow nanospheres. DFT calculations demonstrate that 1T'-MoS2 in the composite makes the activation and reduction of *N-2 more thermodynamically favorable, leading to better NRR catalytic activities.

Transition-metal-atom-pairs deposited on g-CN monolayer for nitrogen reduction reaction: Density functional theory calculations

Bin Huang et al.

Summary: This study explores the use of atom-pair catalysts (APCs) for N-2 reduction reaction (NRR) and identifies Fe-2@CN and Co-2@CN as superior catalysts with high suppression of hydrogen evolution reactions. Further research may lead to the development of highly efficient g-CN-based nanostructures for NRR.

Orbital symmetry matching: Achieving superior nitrogen reduction reaction over single-atom catalysts anchored on Mxene substrates

Jiale Qu et al.

Summary: This study reports superior NRR catalysts identified by first-principles calculations on Ti2NO2 MXenes embedded with 28 different single-atom catalysts. The stability of the system was confirmed using formation energies, and a new enzymatic-distal reaction mechanism was discovered. Among all candidates, Ni anchored on the MXene system achieved the lowest onset potential value reported to date, highlighting the importance of orbital symmetry matching.
