Field trials of a Rpp-pyramided line confirm the synergistic effect of multiple gene resistance to Asian soybean rust (Phakopsora pachyrhizi)

Masayasu Kato et al.

Summary: This study compared the resistance of six different soybean genotypes to Asian soybean rust (ASR) under field conditions in Brazil. The results showed that the genotype No6-12-1 with a combination of multiple resistance genes exhibited lower disease severity, AUDPC, number of uredinia per lesion, and urediniospore production compared to genotypes with only one resistance gene. The synergistic effects of Rpp-gene-pyramiding observed in laboratory assays were also confirmed under field conditions, particularly in terms of uredinia per lesion.

Fungicide Cost Reduction with Soybean Rust-Resistant Cultivars in Paraguay: A Supply and Demand Approach

Yuki Ishikawa-Ishiwata et al.

Summary: Soybean rust is a serious disease in Paraguay, leading to financial losses for farmers who rely on fungicides to control it. Developing SBR-resistant cultivars could significantly reduce fungicide costs for farmers and contribute to a more sustainable agricultural industry. Early dissemination of these cultivars is crucial for maximizing the potential benefits in terms of economic disparities and environmental risks.

Multiple resistance to DMI, QoI and SDHI fungicides in field isolates of Phakopsora pachyrhizi

Monica Anghinoni Mueller et al.

Summary: Asian soybean rust (ASR) is the main disease affecting soybean crops in South America, with disease control relying on site-specific fungicides, multisite fungicides, and host-free periods. Continuous and intensive use of fungicides has led to the selection of P. pachyrhizi isolates with reduced sensitivity to DMIs, QoIs, and SDHIs.
