Fibril Structure Demonstrates the Role of Iodine Labelling on a Pentapeptide Self-Assembly

Alessandro Marchetti et al.

Summary: Iodination is a successful labelling strategy to gain structural insights into proteins and biomolecules. However, interactions driven by iodine may significantly alter the self-assembly behavior of smaller biomolecular systems. In this study, an aliphatic bis-iodinated amino acid was synthesized and incorporated into a custom pentapeptide, leading to enhanced fibrillogenic behavior and amyloid fibril formation.

Anion Anion Coinage Bonds: The Case of Tetrachloridoaurate

Andrea Daolio et al.

Summary: Interactions in crystalline tetrachloridoaurates of acetylcholine and dimethylpropiothetine are characterized by short contacts of Au Cl and Au O. The attractive nature of the Au Cl/O interactions complements the known aurophilic bonds involved in gold-centered interactions. Computational studies show that gold atoms in negatively charged species can function as electron density acceptors.

Anion...Anion Interactions Involving σ-Holes of Perrhenate, Pertechnetate and Permanganate Anions

Andrea Daolio et al.

Summary: Experimental and theoretical evidence suggests that interactions between electron rich atoms and tetroxide anions of group 7 elements involve a new type of attractive sigma-hole interactions, leading to the formation of supramolecular anionic dimers or polymers. These interactions are categorized as matere bonds (MaB) and distinguished from classical metal-ligand coordination bonds.
