Ultrasensitive lateral flow immunoassay of phycotoxin microcystin-LR in seafood based on magnetic particles and peroxidase signal amplification

Olga D. Hendrickson et al.

Summary: A novel immunochromatographic test system for the ultrasensitive detection of the toxic phycotoxin MC-LR has been developed, showing high specificity and potential for a wide range of applications. The system was successfully applied for the control of MC-LR contamination in seafood samples, with recovery rates ranging from 71% to 115%.

Public health risks associated with chronic, low-level domoic acid exposure: A review of the evidence

Rebekah Petroff et al.

Summary: Domoic acid (DA) is a potent natural neurotoxin that accumulates in seafood and poses risks to both humans and wildlife. Despite regulatory limits protecting from acute effects, DA remains a significant public health concern, especially regarding long-term health consequences of low-level exposures. Further research is needed to reassess safety limits and protect public health from the widespread marine toxin.

Immunochromatographic Test Systems for Detection of Microcystin-LR in Seafood

E. A. Zvereva et al.

Summary: Immunochromatographic test systems using spherical nanoparticles and gold nanoflowers as markers have been developed for the rapid control of highly toxic phycotoxin microcystin-LR in seafood. The systems are based on an indirect competitive assay, allowing for detection within 18 minutes with low instrumental and visual detection limits for both nanoparticle types.
