Summary: Four new mixed ligand copper(II) complexes were synthesized and characterized. Two complexes showed better in vitro anticancer activity compared to cisplatin, inducing DNA fragmentation and cell apoptosis. Further studies revealed their potential mechanisms of action in cancer cells.

Summary: Gallic acid extracted from pomegranate pericarp was successfully used as a green and effective catalyst for the synthesis of novel ligands and metal complexes. The ligands and complexes were synthesized using a simple physical grinding technique and characterized using advanced spectroscopic and analytical techniques. The interactions of the metal complexes with DNA and their photonuclease characteristics were studied through molecular docking experiments and spectroscopic techniques.

Additionally, the compounds were screened for antibacterial and cytotoxic activities in vitro.

The complex has the potential to be a candidate drug for colorectal cancer treatment.

Synthesis, DNA binding, antibacterial and anticancer properties of two novel water-soluble copper(II) complexes containing gluconate

Summary: Two new Cu(II) complexes with good water solubility were synthesized and characterized in this study. The complexes showed strong inhibitory activity against bacteria and cancer cells, potentially related to their interaction with DNA. In addition, the complexes induced apoptosis in cells through DNA damage and ROS-mediated mitochondrial dysfunction pathways. Moreover, in vivo studies demonstrated that one of the complexes inhibited tumor growth more effectively than cisplatin.

Various experiments confirmed the electrostatic and groove binding modes of the complexes, paving the way for the development of DNA-targeting Cu(II)/Zn(II) metal complexes as chemotherapeutic agents.
