Development of a Robust, Simple, and Affordable Human Gait Analysis System Using Bottom-Up Pose Estimation With a Smartphone Camera

Aditya Viswakumar et al.

Summary: This study proposes an OpenPose-based markerless gait analysis system (OMGait) that utilizes images from a smartphone camera and Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) to measure the kinematics of body joints. The system achieves high accuracy and performs better than other markerless systems in dark and bright light conditions as well as subjects with long robe clothing.

The accuracy of several pose estimation methods for 3D joint centre localisation

Laurie Needham et al.

Summary: Markerless pose estimation algorithms show potential for large scale movement studies outside of the laboratory, but their accuracy is not yet fully evaluated. 3D joint centre locations derived from these algorithms are not consistently comparable to marker-based motion capture.

A Single RGB Camera Based Gait Analysis With A Mobile Tele-Robot For Healthcare

Ziyang Wang et al.

Summary: The study focuses on the development of a health monitoring device using robust algorithms in a home environment. It combines software analysis of gait with hardware design of a novel marker-less gait analysis device, utilizing a low-cost RGB camera. By employing vision-based human pose estimation methods, the device is able to classify walking patterns and achieve competitive performance with lower hardware costs compared to traditional multi-camera systems.

OpenPose: Realtime Multi-Person 2D Pose Estimation Using Part Affinity Fields

Zhe Cao et al.

Summary: This work presents a real-time approach to detect the 2D pose of multiple people in an image, achieving high accuracy and real-time performance regardless of the number of people in the image. By refining PAFs separately, both runtime performance and accuracy are significantly improved. Additionally, the first combined body and foot keypoint detector reduces inference time and maintains accuracy compared to running them sequentially.
