Tunable electrical properties of C60•m-xylene and the formation of semiconducting ordered amorphous carbon clusters under pressure

Zhongyan Wu et al.

Summary: This article systematically investigates the transport and structural properties of C-60(m-xylene) under pressure. It is found that pressure-induced dimerization of C-60 leads to a significant decrease in resistance. The temperature-dependence of resistance indicates an insulating-to-semiconducting transition accompanied with pressure-induced dimerization. The conductivity shows hysteresis during decompression, confirming different transport behaviors of the sample with retained fullerenes versus OACC.

Computational Analysis of Strain-Induced Effects on the Dynamic Properties of C60 in Fullerite

Aleksandr Lun-Fu et al.

Summary: This study uses a hybrid discrete-continuous physical and mathematical model to investigate the deformation characteristics that cause the rolling effect of C-60 fullerene in a fullerite crystal. The interaction between fullerene atoms and surrounding molecules is described using a centrally symmetric interaction potential, where the surrounding molecules are considered as a spherical surface with uniformly distributed carbon atoms. The rotational motion of the fullerene is described by the Euler dynamic equations. The numerical study presents the results of the influence of strain rate, magnitude, and direction on the dynamic characteristics of the rotational and translational motion of C-60 fullerene in a crystalline fragment.

Evaluating the effective creep properties of graphene-reinforced polymer nanocomposites by a homogenization approach

M. K. Hassanzadeh-Aghdam

Summary: The creep modulus of graphene nanoplatelet (GNP)-reinforced epoxy nanocomposites is estimated through a homogenization approach using the Mori-Tanaka micromechanical model, taking into consideration the agglomeration of GNPs and the interphase region. The simulations show that uniform dispersion of graphene nanoparticles significantly enhances the creep modulus, while GNP agglomeration has a negative effect on improving creep properties. Epoxy nanocomposites reinforced by aligned GNPs exhibit better creep properties compared to randomly dispersed-reinforced nanocomposites, with an increase of about 17% in creep modulus with 1% graphene volume fraction.
