The authors conducted experimental investigations on the integral characteristics of motion of liquid droplets in gas media and found that the distribution of droplets is influenced by the velocity of the medium, its temperature, and the concentration of vapor. The study provides insights into predicting the distribution of droplets in a moving gas medium, particularly in scenarios like fighting forest fires.
The authors have given results of experimental investigations into the integral characteristics of motion of droplets of liquids in gas media as functions of the velocity of motion of a medium and its temperature and of the concentration of a vapor in it. Emphasis was placed on recording the size distributions of liquid droplets on different portions of motion of the gas medium. A study has been made of the velocity of motion of the gas and its temperature and of the concentration of the vapor in it on the distribution of the droplets in a vapor-gasflow. The authors have been determined conditions with which each of the indicated parameters exerts a decisive influence on droplet distributions in the gas medium, and also conditions with which the influence of these parameters is small. Ratios of the rate of decrease in the size of the droplets to the velocity of their motion have been computed using the results of the conducted experiments. The distributions of liquid droplets in a moving gas medium ahead of the combustion front have been predicted under the conditions corresponding to the localization of and fighting a forest fire.
