Ronghua Qi et al.

Summary: In this study, ultrasmall Ni nanoparticles were successfully fabricated via a simple solution method and H-2 reduction, showing competitive reforming performance in CO2 reforming of methane. The bifunctional reaction mechanism on the Ni/Al2O3 catalyst was identified, facilitating the activation of reactant molecules near metal-support interfaces. This work provides new insights into the structure-activity relationships in methane reforming.

Confined Ni-In intermetallic alloy nanocatalyst with excellent coking resistance for methane dry reforming

Wenming Liu et al.

Summary: Carbon dioxide and methane are major greenhouse gases contributing to global warming, but dry reforming of methane (DRM) can convert them into useful products. However, the coking formation on nickel-based catalysts is a challenge for industrialization. Confined indium-nickel intermetallic alloy nanocatalysts show superior resistance to coking in DRM, with the In0.5Ni@SiO2 catalyst demonstrating the best balance of carbon deposition resistance and reactivity. This study provides guidance on designing high-performance catalysts for methane dry reforming to utilize greenhouse gases efficiently.

A Ni/perovskite catalyst with low metal content for CO2 reforming of methane

Ronghua Qi et al.

Summary: An efficient Ni/La0.9Ca0.1AlO2.95 catalyst with low metal content (2.5 wt%) was developed for carbon dioxide (CO2) to methane conversion. The initial CH4 conversion over this catalyst reached 71.4% at 700 ? under atmospheric pressure with a gas hourly space velocity (GHSV) of 48,000 ml/(h gcat), which is among the highest values reported. Long-term stability testing showed that after 20 hours of reaction, this catalyst demonstrated superior catalytic performance compared to a catalyst with 10.0 wt% of Ni. Structural characterizations revealed that small metal size and strong metal-support interactions were two critical structural parameters that gave this catalyst exceptional reforming performance.

A highly active Ni catalyst supported on Mg-substituted LaAlO3 for carbon dioxide reforming of methane

Xiaoli Bai et al.

Summary: In this study, pristine and Mg-substituted LaAlO3 perovskites were synthesized by the citrate sol-gel method and used as supports for Ni catalysts in CO2 reforming of methane. The Ni/La0.8Mg0.2AlO2.9 catalyst showed smaller Ni nanoparticles which led to enhanced reforming activity, and the improved stability was attributed to better anti-coke and anti-sintering properties. The research demonstrates that perovskites with appropriate surface modification can serve as novel supports for highly active catalysts.

Enhanced activity and stability of MgO-promoted Ni/Al2O3 catalyst for dry reforming of methane: Role of MgO

Baitang Jin et al.

Summary: The study deposited highly dispersed nickel nanoparticles on aluminum oxide using atomic layer deposition, and found that the addition of MgO increased the basicity of catalyst surfaces, assisting CO2 adsorption and activation. Although the formation of NiO-MgO solid solution did not improve overall reducibility, the interaction between reduced Ni nanoparticles and MgO inhibited sintering and provided sufficient metal-support interface for CO2 activation, leading to higher methane reforming rates.

Nanostructure of nickel-promoted indium oxide catalysts drives selectivity in CO2 hydrogenation

Matthias S. Frei et al.

Summary: This study investigates the complex interplay between nanostructure and product selectivity of nickel-promoted In2O3 in CO2 hydrogenation to methanol. The presence of nickel on the oxide surface forms InNi3 patches, which boost methanol production by providing neutral hydrogen species. Ratios of nickel to In content influence the formation of different structures and the production of CO and methane in the reaction.

Strong impact of indium promoter on Ni/Al2O3 and Ni/CeO2-Al2O3 catalysts used in dry reforming of methane

Anita Horvath et al.

Summary: The promotion effect of 0.3 wt% indium on different catalysts was studied and compared to the effects of ceria additive. NiIn/Al2O3 maintained activity in DRM, while NiIn/CeO2-Al2O3 reduced coke formation but also decreased catalytic activity.

Effect of the synthesis method on the morphology, textural properties and catalytic performance of La-hexaaluminates in the dry reforming of methane

J. J. Torrez-Herrera et al.

Summary: The synthesis and optimization of nickel/lanthanum hexaaluminates (NiO/LHA) for dry reforming of methane (DRM) were studied in this work. The catalysts showed high stability and catalytic activity, with specific surface areas and tailored structures obtained through various synthesis methods, contributing to the improved performance in DRM reactions. Factors such as textural properties, metal interaction, and nickel grain growth and distribution in the support were found to influence catalytic stability and conversion rates. Additionally, the identification of different coke types and their effects on catalytic deactivation provided insights into the mechanisms underlying the superior catalytic performance of the NiO/LHA catalysts.
