Nonconjugated Biocompatible Macromolecular Luminogens for Sensing and Removals of Fe(III) and Cu(II): DFT Studies on Selective Coordination(s) and On-Off Sensing

Arnab Dutta et al.

Summary: This work introduces the design and synthesis of two nonaromatic biocompatible macromolecular luminogens, P1 and P2, prepared through a facile polymerization of two non-luminous monomers in water medium. These luminogens are suitable for sensitive detections/exclusions of Fe(III)/Cu(II) and cell-imaging applications, demonstrating excellent biocompatibilities and comparable limit of detections.

A Simple Turn-off Schiff Base Fluorescent Sensor for Copper (II) Ion and Its Application in Water Analysis

Xing Zhang et al.

Summary: The synthesized fluorescent probe L with aniline-functionalized naphthalene dialdehyde Schiff base exhibited high sensitivity and selectivity towards copper(II) ions in aqueous media, showing aggregation-induced enhanced emission (AIEE) characteristics with a fluorescence turn-off phenomenon. The 1:2 stoichiometry between L and Cu2+ was determined, with a binding constant of Ka = 1.222 x 10(3). Additionally, the AIEE fluorescent probe L showed satisfactory recoveries in real water samples.

Light-Emitting Conjugated Organic Polymer as an Efficient Fluorescent Probe for Cu2+ Ions Detection and Cell Imaging

Yuwei Zhang et al.

Summary: LCOP-1, a type of light-emitting conjugated organic polymer with abundant butyl groups, effectively reduces the H-aggregation effect, enhances luminescence activity, and exhibits high sensitivity, selectivity, and fast response in detecting Cu2+ ions within 1 minute with a detection limit down to nanomolar levels. Additionally, the sensor can visually change color from pale-yellow to yellowish-brown when detecting Cu2+ ions, and it can detect the ions in cells without causing cytotoxicity, showcasing great potential in biological applications.
