Thermal Characteristics of a Three-Dimensional Coil Type Pulsating Heat Pipe at Different Heating Modes

Satyanand Abraham et al.

Summary: The study showed that the heat transfer performance of a three-dimensional pulsating heat pipe (PHP) is effective, with significantly higher effective thermal conductivity for horizontal and vertical orientations. Additionally, the use of binary fluids can increase the maximum heat input of the heat pipe in different heating modes.

Summary: Thermal management of modern micro- and high-power electronic systems is becoming increasingly challenging due to trends in miniaturization and heat generation. Pulsating heat pipes have attracted growing interest as passive heat transfer devices with high reliability and diverse applications, distinct from traditional heat pipes. Their manufacturing methods and internal structures differ from classical heat pipes, resulting in unique thermo-hydrodynamic behaviors.

Investigation of the effects of miscible and immiscible binary fluids on thermal performance of pulsating heat pipes

Burak Markal et al.

Summary: This study presents and discusses experimental results on asymmetrical designed flat plate closed-loop pulsating heat pipe filled with miscible and immiscible binary fluids. It is found that immiscible binary mixtures exhibit better thermal performance compared to miscible binary and pure fluids; with optimum thermal characteristics obtained with a P:M = 1:1 immiscible mixture. Methanol is identified as the best choice among pure fluids. Bubble dynamics and flow patterns play a critical role in heat transport phenomenon.

Experimental investigation and force analysis of flat-plate type pulsating heat pipes having ternary mixtures

Burak Markal et al.

Summary: A comprehensive experiment on a flat plate closed loop pulsating heat pipe charged with ternary mixtures showed that an intermediate filling ratio of 50% resulted in optimum performance, and mixtures with higher pentane or methanol content exhibited better thermal characteristics compared to pure fluids. However, heat pipes charged with ternary mixtures are highly dependent on gravity and cannot operate in a horizontal position. The presence of a rewetting phenomenon in heat pipes charged with ternary mixtures enhances thermal performance.

Summary: The study aims to increase the thermal efficiency of a flat plate closed-loop pulsating heat pipe solar collector by introducing a novel closed-loop pulsating heat pipe (CLPHP) with a dual-diameter structure. Experimental results show that the thermal performance of the dual-diameter configuration is considerably better than the single-diameter in different inclination angles, achieving a thermal efficiency of 72.4% under sunny weather conditions.
