Sulfur-modified chabazite as a low-cost ion exchanger for the highly selective and simultaneous removal of cesium and strontium

Hee-Man Yang et al.

Summary: Sulfur-modified chabazite (CHA) with sulfur loading has the potential for cost-effective simultaneous removal of Cs+ and Sr2+. The Cs+ selectivity increases with sulfur loading while Sr2+ selectivity decreases. In contaminated water, 5S-CHA shows excellent removal performance for Cs-137 and Sr-90.

Efficient cesium encapsulation from contaminated water by cellulosic biomass based activated wood charcoal

Shahjalal Khandaker et al.

Summary: A cost-effective cellulosic biomass based activated wood charcoal was developed for Cs adsorption from contaminated water. The adsorption process followed Langmuir isotherm and pseudosecond-order kinetic models, with a maximum adsorption capacity of 35.46 mgg(-1). Burning the Cs adsorbed charcoal resulted in a 98% volume reduction, ensuring safe storage and disposal of radioactive waste.

Layered Thiostannates with Distinct Arrangements of Mixed Cations for the Selective Capture of Cs+, Sr2+, and Eu3+ Ions

Wei-An Li et al.

Summary: The study achieved rapid and selective removal of Cs+, Sr2+, and Eu3+ ions using two metal sulfides with distinct structures and arrangements of mixed cations. It is the first time that ionic liquid cations and protonated organic amines have been simultaneously incorporated into metal sulfides, showing high removal efficiency and selectivity. The research highlights the potential of metal sulfide ion exchangers for radionuclide remediation, challenging the consensus about the exchangeability of large-sized organic cations.

Preparation of Laponite hydrogel in different shapes for selective dye adsorption and filtration separation

Hairong Huang et al.

Summary: The study involved the preparation of Laponite (Lap) hydrogel capsules by dropwise addition of Lap solution to an aluminum salt solution. The capsules showed good stability, high adsorption capacities for cationic dyes, and low affinity for anionic dyes. Additionally, they demonstrated the ability to be repeatedly used for dye removal and exhibited good selectivity for specific dyes.

Carbon-based electroactive ion exchange materials: Ultrahigh removal efficiency and ion selectivity for rapid removal of Cs plus ions

Yaqin Rong et al.

Summary: The electroactive composite membrane with nickel hexacyanoferrate (NiHCF) nanoparticles deposited on coal-based tubular carbon membrane (CTCM) surface and inner wall showed rapid and selective separation of Cs+ from wastewater. The composite membrane demonstrated extremely high removal rate and Cs+ selectivity, even in solutions with high coexisting ion concentrations. This can be attributed to the dispersion of NiHCF nanoparticles with high selectivity to Cs+ in the CTCM tube, which enhances mass transfer rate.

Super-adsorbent poly(acrylic acid)/laponite hydrogel with ultrahigh mechanical property for adsorption of methylene blue

Bo Gao et al.

Summary: The ultra-high adsorption capacity and mechanical property of a poly(acrylic acid)/laponite nanocomposite hydrogel have been achieved by combining physical cross-linking with sparse chemical cross-linking. The hydrogel demonstrates porous 3D network structures and high water penetration, resulting in fully exposed adsorption sites and facilitating adsorption. With an adsorption capacity of 3846 mg/g for methylene blue, this hydrogel shows promising potential as an efficient super adsorbent for water treatment.
