Drug Loading of Anthracycline Antibiotics on Carbon Dots Using Circular Dichroism Spectrometry

Braulio C. L. B. Ferreira et al.

Summary: Nanoparticle drug delivery systems are currently a focus of nanomedicine studies, particularly in oncology where quantification of drug administration level is crucial for dosage and quality control of treatments. The proposed analytical protocol using circular dichroism spectrometry provides a feasible pathway to improve nano drug quantification procedures for different anthracycline drugs.

ASCT2 and LAT1 Contribution to the Hallmarks of Cancer: From a Molecular Perspective to Clinical Translation

Catarina Lopes et al.

Summary: ASCT2 and LAT1 play crucial roles in cancer by impacting cell death resistance, proliferative signaling, cellular energetics regulation, angiogenesis, invasion, and metastasis. They are considered prognostic factors in various cancer types and potential therapeutic targets. Efforts have been made to develop inhibitors for these transporters, with JHP203 being the only compound in a Phase 1 clinical trial at present. Developing and testing novel inhibitors for ASCT2 and LAT1 could significantly improve cancer prognosis.

Mechanism of substrate transport and inhibition of the human LAT1-4F2hc amino acid transporter

Renhong Yan et al.

Summary: LAT1 is a representative light chain protein of heteromeric amino acid transporters, overexpressed in many types of tumors and considered a drug target for cancer treatment. The cryo-EM structures of LAT1-4F2hc complexes reveal an outward-facing occluded conformation and a different inhibition mechanism, providing important insights for future drug design.

Metformin derived carbon dots: Highly biocompatible fluorescent nanomaterials as mitochondrial targeting and blood-brain barrier penetrating biomarkers

Emel Kirbas Cilingir et al.

Summary: This study synthesized metformin derived carbon dots (Met-CDs) with low toxicity and excellent biocompatibility, making them ideal candidates for bioimaging studies. Furthermore, Met-CDs were shown to penetrate cell membranes and localize in the nucleus and mitochondria, with potential selective targeting of cancer cell mitochondria. Zebrafish study confirmed Met-CDs crossing the blood-brain barrier without additional ligands.

MYC Rules: Leading Glutamine Metabolism toward a Distinct Cancer Cell Phenotype

Vincent Tambay et al.

Summary: In the last decade, metabolic reprogramming has been recognized as a key characteristic of cancer cells, with the MYC oncogene playing a crucial role in regulating differential cancer cell metabolism, particularly through the involvement of glutamine. Understanding the metabolic pathways, such as glutaminolysis, controlled by MYC activation provides insights into the potential vulnerabilities of cancer cells from a metabolic perspective.
