Effect of reservoir permeability on oil recovery using air foam flooding: a case study on Ganguyi oilfield

Hong Zhang et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that highly permeable and heterogeneous reservoirs are more suitable for air foam flooding, which can improve oil displacement efficiency and reduce injection pressure.

A comprehensive stability evaluation method of multiple salt caverns underground gas storage with interlayers

Jinghong Peng et al.

Summary: This paper aims to develop a method for comprehensive stability evaluation of multiple salt caverns underground gas storage facilities with interlayers. Based on established index system and weight calculations, the stability levels of four UGS facilities are successfully evaluated. The results show that all four facilities are in good stable states, with only UGS2 having a slight threat of instability.

The effect of emulsion and foam on anti-water coning during nitrogen foam injection in bottom-water reservoirs

Danqi Chen et al.

Summary: Bottom-water coning occurs in the middle and late stages of reservoir development, leading to a rapid increase in water cut and decline in oil production. Water plugging with nitrogen foam is effective for improving development during high water-cut periods. Foam and emulsion injection can result in improved oil recovery and decreased water cut in the reservoir.

Thief zone identification and classification in unconsolidated sandstone reservoirs: A field case study

Anzhu Xu et al.

Summary: This study identifies and evaluates thief zones in a water injection project in North Buzazi Oilfield in Kazakhstan using three different methods. The results show good consistency among the identification methods, and present two ways to quantitatively evaluate the characteristics of thief zones for future field development design.

The characteristics and origins of thief zones in the Cretaceous limestone reservoirs of Central and southern Mesopotamian Basin

Hangyu Liu et al.

Summary: Thief zones in Cretaceous carbonate reservoirs in Central and Southern Mesopotamian Basin are characterized by high permeability and porosity, and can be classified into different types based on their sedimentary environments. The formations of thief zones are influenced by factors such as primary porosity, high-energy sedimentary facies, and freshwater dissolution during the eogenesis stage. The different types of thief zones show distinct rock textures, pore structures, and well log response characteristics.

Study on associated gas combustion characteristics and inert gas influence rules in air-foam flooding process

Tao Fan et al.

Summary: The study investigated the combustion characteristics of associated gases during air-foam flooding, with findings showing changes in flammability limits with increasing initial temperature and pressure. An empirical formula for combustion performance of gases with similar compositions was established. Initial pressure and temperature had varying effects on limiting oxygen concentration depending on the inert gas used.

Influence of Heterogeneity on Nitrogen Foam Flooding in Low-Permeability Light Oil Reservoirs

Mengyu Wang et al.

Summary: Through microscopic visualization flooding experiments and NMR monitoring double-core flooding experiments, this study found that nitrogen foam flooding can block main flow channels in strongly heterogeneous reservoirs and displace large flaky residual oil. The recovery contrast of foam flooding between relatively low-permeability and high-permeability cores increases with permeability contrast, and foam flooding can significantly enhance oil recovery in small pores that were not displaced by water flooding.

Relationship between microstructure and mechanical properties of polyether block amide foams

Esteve Ernault et al.

Summary: The mechanical behaviors of five polyether block amide foams obtained by mold-opening foam injection process were investigated based on their microstructures, which were characterized in terms of cavity size and shape ratios. The foam responses in compression at small and large strain were analyzed, showing that the hard versus soft segments ratio and microstructure fineness play important roles. Viscoelasticity at large strain was characterized, with reduced packing time and pressure leading to undesired large cavities impacting the mechanical behavior of the foams at large strain.
