Hierarchy of Exact Low-Dimensional Reductions for Populations of Coupled Oscillators

Rok Cestnik et al.

Summary: We study the collective behavior of phase oscillators in the thermodynamic limit and propose an Ansatz for the circular moments of the distribution that allows for truncation at any number of modes. By simulating a Josephson junction array, we demonstrate the higher-dimensional behavior facilitated by dynamics on extended manifolds.

Resonant triad interactions in a stably stratified uniform shear flow

Lima Biswas et al.

Summary: Resonant triad interactions were investigated in a stably stratified shear flow, analyzing the secondary terms produced by the interaction of two primary modes and solving the differential equations for spatial amplitudes. Self-resonating modes were identified using dispersion curves.

Partial synchronization in the second-order Kuramoto model: An auxiliary system method

Nikita V. Barabash et al.

Summary: This study analyzes the stability of partial synchronization in the second-order finite-dimensional Kuramoto model of heterogeneous oscillators with inertia using an auxiliary system method. Results show explicit bounds relating maximum natural frequency mismatch, inertia, and network size to support stable partial synchronization, as well as predicting threshold-like stability loss caused by increasing inertia. The auxiliary system method is potentially applicable to cluster synchronization with multiple coherent clusters and more complex network topology.

Between synchrony and turbulence: intricate hierarchies of coexistence patterns

Sindre W. Haugland et al.

Summary: The text explores the behaviors of coupled oscillators, including synchronization and incoherence, as well as the discovery of "chimera states" and their relationship with synchronization and asynchronization. It demonstrates that globally coupled identical oscillators can express a wider range of coexistence patterns, including chimeras.

High-order phase reduction for coupled oscillators

Erik Gengel et al.

Summary: This study investigates phase reduction in networks of coupled oscillators in higher orders of the coupling parameter. An analytic perturbation procedure is developed for coupled Stuart-Landau oscillators with explicit phase, while a numerical procedure is presented for systems without explicit expressions of the phase. The approach is demonstrated by deriving second-order phase equations for a network of three Stuart-Landau oscillators and applying it to a network of three van der Pol oscillators to reveal components with different scaling in the interaction strength.
