Post-buckling behavior of functionally graded and carbon-nanotubes based structures with different mechanical loadings

Souhir Zghal et al.

Summary: This article investigates the post-buckling behavior of plates and cylindrical panels made of functionally graded materials and carbon-nanotubes reinforced composites under mechanical loads. It proposes a formulation within a double directors finite shell element that allows a parabolic distribution of the transverse shear strains and introduces large deformations and finite rotations through a non-linear framework. Newton-Raphson with arc length control solution strategy is used to resolve the equilibrium paths.

Free vibration analysis of porous beams with gradually varying mechanical properties

Souhir Zghal et al.

Summary: This study presents analysis on the free vibration behavior of porous beams with gradually varying mechanical properties using a robust finite beam element. The results show the effects of gradient index, porosity coefficient, boundary conditions, and geometrical parameters on the vibration of Functionally Graded Material (FGM) beams, suggesting that porous beams can be used as a passive method for vibration control in structural components.

Buckling responses of porous structural components with gradient power-based and sigmoid material variations under different types of compression loads

S. Zghal et al.

Summary: This work developed a comprehensive finite element model to study the effect of porosity parameter on critical buckling responses of functionally graded plates and caps, providing new buckling results for porous structures with various porosity distributions. The model investigates the influences of functionally graded index, porosity coefficient, porosity patterns, geometrical design parameters, and boundary conditions, and is helpful for predicting and controlling the buckling behavior of porous structures in nuclear and aeronautical sectors.

Vibration characteristics of plates and shells with functionally graded pores imperfections using an enhanced finite shell element

S. Zghal et al.

Summary: The study developed an enhanced finite shell model using the first order shear deformation theory (FSDT) to study the vibration characteristics of imperfect functionally graded (FGM) plates and shells including porosities. The proposed model introduces a quadratic shear function to improve FSDT and avoid the use of computationally expensive shear correction factors. The finite shell element model shows better agreement with exact solutions compared to other theories, and various factors' effects on vibrational behavior of imperfect FGM porous plates and shells are examined in detail.
