Spatio-temporal assessment of the hydrological drivers of an active deep-seated gravitational slope deformation: The Vogelsberg landslide in Tyrol (Austria)

Jan Pfeiffer et al.

Summary: The spatio-temporal variations of precipitation influence the displacement rate of deep-seated landslides by controlling groundwater recharge, pore-water pressure, and shear strength. This study assessed hydrological landslide drivers and investigated their distribution in relation to movements recorded at the Vogelsberg landslide in Austria. Time-delayed periods of landslide acceleration were identified in response to distinctive hydrometeorological events, showing spatially diverse response times and correlations between water input and landslide displacement rate.

An overview of monitoring methods for assessing the performance of nature-based solutions against natural hazards

Prashant Kumar et al.

Summary: This study highlights the importance of developing a comprehensive approach to monitor the performance of nature-based solutions (NBS) in mitigating hydro-meteorological risks. It emphasizes the need for further research to improve the monitoring methods and increase the ecological and socio-economic benefits of NBS.

Nature-based solutions efficiency evaluation against natural hazards: Modelling methods, advantages and limitations

Prashant Kumar et al.

Summary: Nature-based solutions for hydro-meteorological risks reduction are gaining popularity, but the current state-of-the-art models and tools are still in development and need further refinement to evaluate performance and cost-effectiveness. Various numerical models and tools can be used to assess the effectiveness of NBS for different risks, but bespoke tools are required to holistically evaluate the components of NBS for optimal implementation and management.
