Synthesis of Cyclic Polyolefin: Ring-Opening Metathesis Polymerization by Binuclear Vanadium Complexes

Xiaohua Hou et al.

Summary: The binuclear vanadium alkylidene showed higher activity in ROMP of norbornene, leading to the formation of cyclic polymers. The size of the polymer ring could be adjusted by the vanadium catalyst structure and polymerization temperature. Similar results were also observed in the ROMP of cyclopentene.

Vanadium-Catalyzed Terpolymerization of α,ω-Dienes with Ethylene and Cyclic Olefins: Ready Access to Polar-Functionalized Polyolefins

Benedetta Palucci et al.

Summary: In this study, the terpolymerization of two alpha,omega-dienes with ethylene and various cyclic olefins catalyzed by a chelated imido vanadium complex was investigated. The resulting polyolefins showed high molecular weight, narrow molecular weight distribution, subambient glass transition temperatures, and proper content of C=C bonds. NMR analysis of the obtained polymers revealed the influence of subtle changes in the alpha,omega-diene size on the insertion paths during the polymerization process.

Bulky o-Phenylene-Bridged Bimetallic α-Diimine Ni(II) and Pd(II) Catalysts in Ethylene (Co)polymerization

Shi-Yu Chen et al.

Summary: The bimetallic synergistic strategy involving bulky o-phenylene-bridged bimetallic alpha-diimine Ni(II) and Pd(II) catalysts has shown excellent activity in ethylene polymerization and copolymerization, producing high-molecular-weight polyethylene with desired mechanical properties. The molecular structures of bimetallic Pd(II) complexes have been elucidated by X-ray diffraction. These bimetallic catalysts provide a promising avenue for tuning polymer properties and show superior performance compared to monometallic analogues in terms of polymerization activity, molecular weight, and branching density.

Vanadium(V) imido chlorides and n-propoxides - Towards a rational design of vanadium imido precatalysts for ethylene polymerization

Anatoliy S. Kayda et al.

Summary: This study presents the synthesis of a series of vanadium(V) imido complexes with various substituents on the imido fragment, and their results in ethylene polymerization. The complexes were characterized using NMR and elemental analysis, with propoxide complexes showing better catalytic activities and higher molecular weights compared to the corresponding chloride complexes. The study suggests that the DFT calculated HOMO on the imide nitrogen may play a role in the activation of the complexes.

Copolymerization of Ethylene and Long-Chain Functional α-Olefins by Dinuclear Zirconium Catalysts

Jessica Sampson et al.

Summary: This study investigates the copolymerization of ethylene and alpha-olefins bearing alcohol groups using mono- and dizirconium bisamine bisphenolate catalysts. The results show lower incorporation levels with bimetallic catalysts, possibly due to steric hindrance between larger comonomers and the distal metal center. The data does not support a bimetallic mechanism for polar comonomer coordination and incorporation.
