Risk factors of lymphovascular invasion in hypopharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma and its influence on prognosis

Gao Gang et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that T3-4 stage, N2-3 stage, and poor differentiation are independent risk factors for lymphatic vascular invasion (LVI) of hypopharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (HPSCC). LVI increases the rates of local recurrence and regional recurrence, and decreases the 5-year overall survival rate of HPSCC.

Risk of Lymph Node Metastasis and Feasibility of Endoscopic Treatment in Ulcerative Early Gastric Cancer

Ming-Han Ren et al.

Summary: Depth of invasion and lymphovascular invasion were strongly associated with lymph node metastasis in ulcerative early gastric cancer. Endoscopic resection may be applicable for undifferentiated mucosal ulcerative early gastric cancer < 30 mm in size, but further investigation is needed to evaluate its safety.

Risk of lymph node metastasis in early gastric cancer and indications for endoscopic resection: is it worth applying the east rules to the west?

Leonardo Medeiros Milhomem et al.

Summary: This study identified risk factors associated with lymph node metastasis in early gastric cancer, such as undifferentiated tumors and submucosal invasion. Endoscopic resection or other less invasive treatments may be a cautiously considered option for these patients.

Relationship between lymphovascular invasion and molecular subtypes in invasive breast cancer

Sevket Baris Morkavuk et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the relationship between LVI and molecular subtypes in invasive breast cancers, finding that LVI may impact molecular subtypes and suggesting that histopathological factors can influence tumor biology in a heterogeneous disease like breast cancer.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.

Sublobar Resection in Stage IA Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer: Role of Preoperative CT Features in Predicting Pathologic Lymphovascular Invasion and Postoperative Recurrence

Jooae Choe et al.

Summary: This study aimed to identify CT features predictive of pathologic lymphovascular invasion (LVI) in stage IA NSCLC and evaluate their prognostic value in patients undergoing sublobar resection. Pathologic LVI was found only in solid-dominant part-solid nodules and solid nodules with a solid portion diameter over 10 mm. Peritumoral interstitial thickening and pleural contact independently predicted pathologic LVI and recurrence-free survival (RFS) in such nodules.

Lymphovascular invasion quantification could improve risk prediction of lymph node metastases in patients with submucosal (T1b) esophageal adenocarcinoma

Steffi E. M. van de Ven et al.

Summary: This study aimed to quantify lymphovascular invasion (LVI) in patients with pT1b esophageal adenocarcinoma to assess its prognostic value. The risk of metastases increased with a higher number of LVI foci. A prediction model with good discriminative ability was developed but requires external validation before clinical implementation.

Lymphovascular space invasion in endometrial carcinoma: Tumor size and location matter

M. Reyes Oliver-Perez et al.

Summary: Size >2 cm and involvement of the lower uterine segment are independent factors for LVSI in endometrial carcinoma, mainly used for surgical planning. LVSI is also more common in type 1 tumors with deep myometrial invasion, grade 3 and/or cervical stromal invasion, and in type 2 tumors.

Summary: Gastric cancer patients from Eastern and Western countries exhibit different characteristics, and the Chinese Society of Clinical Oncology has developed guidelines that take into account regional differences and aim to provide personalized recommendations. The 2021 guidelines cover various aspects of gastric cancer diagnosis and treatment, integrating research data from both China and overseas to offer more relevant recommendations.
