High T c Superconductivity in Heavy Rare Earth Hydrides

Hao Song et al.

Summary: Recently, carbonaceous sulfur hydride was found to exhibit room temperature superconductivity under high pressure. The authors theoretically identified two sodalite-type clathrate hydrides, YbH6 and LuH6, which may have high superconducting critical temperatures at lower pressures. This is attributed to the electron-phonon coupling enhancement due to the presence of filled f-shells in the YbH6 and LuH6 compounds.

Superconducting binary hydrides: Theoretical predictions and experimental progresses

Summary: Hydrogen can metalize under extreme compression and potentially become a room-temperature superconductor. Hydrogen-rich hydrides may also exhibit superconductivity with high critical temperatures. Recent research progress suggests promising prospects for discovering a room-temperature superconductor.

High-Temperature Superconducting Phases in Cerium Superhydride with a Tc up to 115 K below a Pressure of 1 Megabar

Wuhao Chen et al.

Summary: Researchers have discovered two new superconducting phases, SC-I and SC-II, at lower pressures, showing high critical temperatures. The electron-phonon coupling coefficient of these superconducting phases either decreases or increases with pressure, leading to a phase transition that affects superconducting properties.

Ternary Mg-Nb-H polyhydrides under high pressure

Xilong Dou et al.

Summary: By conducting structural searches and calculations, we identified a ternary magnesium-based hydrogen storage compound Mg7NbH19 with high hydrogen storage capacity and low dehydrogenation temperature. This compound achieves the remarkable decrease of hydrogen release temperature through atomic rearrangements that form H-H pairs and weaken metal-hydrogen chemical bonds.

Prediction of high-Tc superconductivity in ternary lanthanum borohydrides

Xiaowei Liang et al.

Summary: The study explores crystal structures and superconductivity in the La-B-H system under pressure using particle-swarm intelligence structure-searches methods and first-principles calculations. The research predicts that LaBH7 and LaBH8 can become dynamically stable and exhibit superconductivity at lower pressures. These results provide guidance for future experiments targeting hydride superconductors with lower synthesis pressures and higher T-c.

Phase stability and superconductivity of lead hydrides at high pressure

Bole Chen et al.

Summary: In this study, density functional theory calculations and crystal structure predictions using particle swarm optimization method were combined to determine stable hydrides of lead under pressure. PbH6 was found to be the first stable hydride, offering a potentially straightforward route towards synthesis with moderately high Tc values indicating superconductivity. Competitive PbH4 and PbH6 structures were identified to have layered structures while PbH8 structures show a beta-Sn structure with quasi-one-dimensional hydrogen chains.
