Inorganic Compounds as Binders for Si-Alloy Anodes

Congxiao Wei et al.

Summary: The study found that inorganic binders can replace organic binders in Si-alloy and graphite electrodes, improving the cycling performance of the batteries. Despite poor coating quality, graphite electrodes with inorganic binders still exhibit good cycling performance.

Did Cyclic Metaphosphates Have a Role in the Origin of Life?

Thomas Glonek

Summary: The question of how life began remains unsolved, with this study proposing a hypothesis that a mineral scaffold containing polymerized phosphate units generated by geological processes in primordial seas may have played a crucial role in sequestering and organizing the constituents of primordial life.

Binding mechanisms of PVDF in lithium ion batteries

Xuehu Zhong et al.

Summary: The study investigates the binding mechanism of PVDF in lithium ion batteries by simulation calculation and theoretical analysis. The results show different binding interactions between PVDF and LiFePO4 and between PVDF and Li(Ni1-x-yCoxMny)O2, providing insights for the development of new binders and the peeling of active materials in LIBs. Scanning electron microscopy and Auger electron spectroscopy analyses reveal the distribution of PVDF on the surfaces of active materials in LFP batteries and between Al and NCM in NCM batteries, with no chemical interaction detected among the surfaces of active materials, PVDF, and Al in both types of batteries.

Engineering Na+-layer spacings to stabilize Mn-based layered cathodes for sodium-ion batteries

Wenhua Zuo et al.

Summary: The authors utilized a water-mediated strategy to enhance the electrochemical performance of manganese-based layered cathodes in sodium-ion batteries, achieving outstanding cycling stability and rate capability. Engineering alkali-metal layer spacings was shown to be an effective strategy for stabilizing the structure of layered transition metal oxides.
