Enhancing Ferromagnetism and Tuning Electronic Properties of CrI3 Monolayers by Adsorption of Transition-Metal Atoms

Qiang Yang et al.

Summary: The study reveals that adsorption of 3d transition-metal (TM) atoms onto CrI3 monolayers can tune their electronic properties, improve ferromagnetic stability, and increase the Curie temperature. The Curie temperature of CrI3 can be increased nearly threefold by adsorption of Sc and V atoms, offering a new pathway for potential applications of TM-CrI3 systems in nanoelectronics and spintronics devices.

Full quantum search for high Tc two-dimensional van der Waals ferromagnetic semiconductors

Liang Liu et al.

Summary: Five 2D semiconductors with ferromagnetic properties and their corresponding Curie temperatures were identified using a new method, which showed agreement with experimental results. Systems with low-spin numbers and low anisotropies have higher Curie temperatures. These findings provide excellent candidates for future spintronics applications.

Spin caloritronics in two-dimensional CrI3/NiCl2 van derWaals heterostructures

Xingyi Tan et al.

Summary: Research has constructed two types of magnetic CrI3/NiCl2 vdW heterostructures that can be easily converted to different magnetic semiconducting states by an external electric field. Under a temperature gradient, two thermal spin-dependent currents with opposite spin orientations can flow independently in different layers, showing a nearly perfect thermal spin-filtering effect and a well-defined spin-Seebeck effect.

Difference in magnetic anisotropy of the ferromagnetic monolayers VI3 and CrI3

Guo-Dong Zhao et al.

Summary: By analyzing the magnetic anisotropy energies and preferred spin orientations of M3+ ions in MI3 monolayers, conflicting observations on the properties of VI3 and CrI3 monolayers can be resolved. The V3+ ion in VI3 exhibits uniaxial magnetism due to its non-zero orbital quantum number, while the Cr3+ ion in CrI3 does not.
