Programmable quantum simulations of spin systems with trapped ions

C. Monroe et al.

Summary: Laser-cooled and trapped atomic ions provide an ideal platform for simulating interacting quantum spin models. By using optical fields to modulate the ions' Coulomb interaction, long-range and tunable spin-spin interactions can be produced. This quantum simulator allows for the study of complex equilibrium states and dynamical processes in many-body interacting quantum systems.

Phase diagram and vortex properties of a PT-symmetric non-Hermitian two-component superfluid

A. M. Begun et al.

Summary: In this study, the phase diagram and properties of global vortices in the non-Hermitian parity-timesymmetric relativistic model with two interacting scalar complex fields were discussed. The model exhibits stable PT-symmetric regions, unstable PT-broken regions, and rich patterns in the parameter space, intertwining with U(1)-symmetric and U(1)-broken phases. The non-Hermitian two-component model displays much richer dynamics than its Hermitian counterpart, particularly in the context of vortex solutions and mutual dissipative dynamics of different condensates.

Probing non-Hermitian phase transitions in curved space via quench dynamics

Ygor Para et al.

Summary: This study investigates the interplay of geometry and non-Hermitian dynamics by simulating a model of Dirac fermions with an imaginary mass term on a sphere, revealing the existence of curvature-dependent non-Hermitian phase transitions. The different phases are characterized by computing the pseudomagnetization and the non-Hermitian fidelity susceptibility, and the non-Hermitian phase transitions are probed by calculating the (generalized) Loschmidt echo and the dynamical fidelity after a quantum quench of the imaginary mass.

Dynamical quantum phase transition in a bosonic system with long-range interactions

Marvin Syed et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the dynamical quantum phase transitions in a quantum system of harmonically coupled degenerate bosons as a function of power-law decay. An analytical approximation is developed to solve nonlinear coupled Ermakov equations at late times, showing the emergence of a dynamical quantum phase transition. Two distinct dynamical phases are defined based on the post-quench mass gap, with periodic nonanalytic cusps observed in the Loschmidt echo.

Cavity QED with quantum gases: new paradigms in many-body physics

Farokh Mivehvar et al.

Summary: The field of quantum-gas cavity QED has rapidly evolved over the past decade, offering opportunities to implement, simulate, and experimentally test fundamental solid-state Hamiltonians as well as non-equilibrium many-body phenomena. Notable experiments have observed various phenomena by designing and controlling photon-induced tunable-range interactions in open quantum environments.
