Effects of molecular vibration on the formation of transient defects during high-power UV laser excitation

Yao Wang et al.

Summary: The use of high-power laser-induced spectrum analyzer revealed transient material variations in KDP/DKDP crystals. Raman spectra showed significant increase in molecular vibration under high-power laser, while emission spectra comparison in damaged and undamaged sites indicated a decrease in Raman scattering intensity and detection of an emission peak at 467 nm after damage.

First-principles studies on optical absorption of [010] screw dislocation in KDP crystals

Xuanyu Jiang et al.

Summary: This study, conducted using density functional theory, reveals that the [010] screw dislocation in KDP crystals under shear stress deforms the crystal structure, narrows the band gap, and enhances the linear and nonlinear absorption of the crystal. Additionally, the presence of this dislocation may weaken KDP's resistance to laser irradiation.

Cluster defects in gibbsite nanoplates grown at acidic to neutral pH

Sebastian T. Mergelsberg et al.

Summary: Gibbsite is a common mineral phase with many industrial applications, serving as the solubility limiting phase for aluminum over a wide pH range. By examining defects in gibbsite nanoplates and recrystallizing them in highly alkaline solutions, it has been shown that the crystallinity can be gradually improved and most defects eliminated, highlighting a possible cluster-mediated growth mechanism.

Theoretically guiding the construction of a novel Cu2O@Cu97P3@Cu3P heterojunction with a 3D hierarchical structure for efficient photocatalytic hydrogen evolution

Lijun Zhang et al.

Summary: Using density functional theory (DFT) calculations, this study determined an experimental scheme for surface modification of Cu2O with Cu3P to produce a 3D hierarchical core-shell structure (Cu2O@Cu97P3@Cu3P) that significantly increased photocatalytic H-2 production under visible light. The introduction of Cu3P onto Cu2O surface improved adsorption free energy of H atoms, reduced overpotential of hydrogen evolution, and increased active sites for hydrogen production. The presence of Cu97P3 bridged substances between Cu2O and Cu3P accelerated electron transfer and improved photocatalytic hydrogen evolution efficiency.
