Ferrimagnetic spintronics

Se Kwon Kim et al.

Summary: Ferrimagnets, composed of multiple antiferromagnetically coupled magnetic elements, offer advantages of both ferromagnets and antiferromagnets, including easy control of magnetization by external field, faster dynamics than ferromagnets, and potential for high-density devices. This Review provides a summary of recent progress in ferrimagnetic spintronics, focusing on functionalities such as spin transport, spin texture dynamics, and all-optical switching.

Nanoscale neural network using non-linear spin-wave interference

Adam Papp et al.

Summary: Wave based computing in neuromorphic systems utilizes spin-waves for non-linear operations, with signal routing and weight interconnections achieved through interference of scattered waves. Training the network involves finding the desired input-output mapping field pattern, and the computational power greatly increases in the non-linear interference regime.

A spin-wave driven skyrmion diode under transverse magnetic fields

Lingling Song et al.

Summary: The study focuses on the motion of skyrmions driven by spin waves in the presence of a transverse magnetic field, revealing that the external magnetic field can shift the spin wave dispersion relation and induce asymmetric skyrmion propagation when spin waves are injected from opposite sides. The concept of a spin wave-driven skyrmion diode is proposed based on these findings, offering new insights for designing skyrmion devices embracing chiral spin waves. Spin-wave transport coefficients are numerically computed to quantify the number of reflected magnons, explaining the asymmetry in skyrmion velocity.

Switching between Magnetic Bloch and Neel Domain Walls with Anisotropy Modulations

Kevin J. A. Franke et al.

Summary: Through micromagnetic simulations and analytical modeling, it has been found that Neel walls can be formed even in the absence of a Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction, but with uniaxial in-plane magnetic anisotropy. The ability to switch between Bloch and Neel walls can be achieved via modulation of both in-plane and perpendicular magnetic anisotropy, opening up possibilities for electric field control of domain wall type with small applied voltages.

Narrow Waveguide Based on Ferroelectric Domain Wall

Gongzheng Chen et al.

Summary: Research shows that two bound state excitations of electric polarization, namely vibration and breathing modes, can be hosted and propagate within the ferroelectric domain wall. The vibration polar wave is deeply constricted inside the domain wall and can even propagate in the presence of local pinnings. This discovery opens up a new paradigm for developing ferroelectric information processing units.

Summary: This study reveals the dynamics of skyrmion motion driven by magnons in antiferromagnets, with a focus on the influence of magnon polarization. The research uncovers a strong interdependence between magnon polarization and skyrmion motion, showcasing the complex nature of their relationship. The findings highlight the nontrivial skyrmion-magnon scattering behavior and its potential implications for advancing antiferromagnetic spintronics.

Unidirectional spin wave propagation due to a saturation magnetization gradient

P. Borys et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that a saturation magnetization gradient in a perpendicularly magnetized ferromagnetic film induces nonreciprocal spin-wave propagation and an asymmetric dispersion relation. By adding a linear potential to the spin-wave equation of motion, unidirectional spin-wave propagation can be achieved, which is essential for the design of magnonic circuits. Recent experimental works using a suitable thermal landscape to dynamically modulate saturation magnetization further emphasize the relevance of these results.

Current-induced spin-wave Doppler shift and attenuation in compensated ferrimagnets

Dong-Hyun Kim et al.

Summary: The study investigates the modification of ferrimagnetic spin-wave dynamics induced by electrical current, showing that the sign of the Doppler shift is influenced by the handedness of spin waves. When electrons move in the same direction as spin-wave propagation, the attenuation lengths of both right- and left-handed spin waves increase.
