Non-Hermitian pseudo-gaps

Linhu Li et al.

Summary: This work discovers a novel origin for pseudo-gaps when boundaries are introduced in a non-Hermitian lattice, which do not exist in Hermitian systems. Pseudo-gaps can host mid-gap modes and exhibit extreme sensitivity to symmetry-breaking perturbations.

Non-Hermitian pseudo mobility edge in a coupled chain system

Sen Mu et al.

Summary: In this work, the coupling between a clean non-Hermitian chain with skin localization and a delocalized chain of the same length is explored. The study reveals interesting consequences such as the induction of a pseudo mobility edge and the gradual takeover of the non-Hermitian skin effect. The quantized winding number characterizes the transition between different phases.

Correspondence between Non-Hermitian Topology and Directional Amplification in the Presence of Disorder

Clara C. Wanjura et al.

Summary: In this study, it is demonstrated analytically that the correspondence between NH topology and directional amplification still holds in the presence of disorder. The key features of nontrivial NH topology, such as the exponential growth (or suppression) of end-to-end forward (reverse) gains with system size, are shown to be preserved in disordered systems. This work establishes that NH topology in cavity arrays remains robust against disorder.

Acoustic non-Hermitian skin effect from twisted winding topology

Li Zhang et al.

Summary: The experimental realization of the non-Hermitian skin effect in a one-dimensional non-reciprocal acoustic crystal demonstrates unique features such as bipolar localization and Bloch point, revealing previously unnoticed characteristics of NHSE originating from complex non-Hermitian winding topology.

Impurity induced scale-free localization

Linhu Li et al.

Summary: Non-Hermitian physics describes open systems susceptible to loss or gain, and this study investigates impurity effects in such systems, proposing specific circuit setups for experimental verification. The sensitivity of non-Hermitian systems to boundary conditions is explored, revealing steady states with scale-free localization and co-existence of non-Hermitian skin effect and scale-free localization in various impurity strength regimes. Bloch-like states are also observed in the system, showing sensitivity to impurity strength even in qualitative aspects of the system's spectrum. Simulation results confirm the main findings of the study.

Direct measurement of a non-Hermitian topological invariant in a hybrid light-matter system

Rui Su et al.

Summary: The text discusses the importance of topology in understanding and designing robust materials, as well as measuring the topological invariants in both Hermitian and non-Hermitian systems. It presents the measurement of a non-Hermitian topological invariant in the momentum-resolved spectrum of exciton polaritons, highlighting the potential for realizing non-Hermitian topological phases in condensed matter systems.

Exact Solution of Non-Hermitian Systems with Generalized Boundary Conditions: Size-Dependent Boundary Effect and Fragility of the Skin Effect

Cui-Xian Guo et al.

Summary: The study reveals the sensitivity of systems with non-Hermitian skin effects to boundary conditions and lattice size. In one-dimensional non-Hermitian models, the existence of non-Hermitian skin effects is identified even when one of the boundary hopping terms vanishes. However, it is shown that in the thermodynamic limit, this skin effect is fragile to any tiny boundary perturbations.

Quantized classical response from spectral winding topology

Linhu Li et al.

Summary: The authors predict the emergence of quantized classical response in the steady-state response of a non-Hermitian system, based on the fundamental mathematical properties of the Green's function, without invoking linear response theory. This new paradigm is classical in nature, applies to non-Hermitian settings, and is characterized by fascinating plateaus with quantized values based on spectral winding numbers as topological invariants.

Exact solution of the single impurity problem in nonreciprocal lattices: Impurity-induced size-dependent non-Hermitian skin effect

Yanxia Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, the single impurity problem in the Hatano-Nelson model and the Su-Schreieffer-Heeger model was considered, revealing a transition of bulk states and spectrum structure change when increasing impurity strength. The critical value of impurity strength was found to be size dependent, increasing exponentially with lattice size in certain conditions.

Simple formulas of directional amplification from non-Bloch band theory

Wen-Tan Xue et al.

Summary: Green's functions are fundamental for determining linear responses of physical systems. Recent developments in non-Hermitian systems require corresponding Green's function formulas. Sensitivity of energy spectrums to boundary conditions complicates this task, making straightforward generalization of traditional formulas invalid.
