Surgical Coaching for Operative Performance Enhancement (SCOPE): skill ratings and impact on surgeons' practice

Summary: In a surgical coaching program, surgeons' skill ratings did not significantly change over three coaching sessions, but participants reported improvements in teamwork, communication skills, and awareness in and outside the operating room. Coaching was perceived to have a positive impact on patient care and surgeon well-being, although changes in technical and non-technical skills were not observed over three coaching sessions.

A Novel Operative Coaching Program for General Surgery Chief Residents Improves Operative Efficiency

Summary: The study evaluated the impact of operative coaching model on general surgery chief residents' operative efficiency. It showed that coaching could lead to shorter operative times in complex cases and an increase in efficiency for chief residents. Prospective entrustment scores were associated with improved performance in operations with greater complexity.
