Cobalt-Catalyzed Dearomatization of Indoles via Transfer Hydrogenation To Afford Polycyclic Indolines

Siwei Chen et al.

Summary: A cobalt-catalyzed dearomatization of indoles via transfer hydrogenation with HBpin and H2O has been developed to access hexahydropyrido[1,2-a]indoles with high regio- and chemoselectivity. A proposed preliminary reaction mechanism based on deuterium-labeling experiments suggests the involvement of a cobalt hydride species in the reaction.

Iridium-Catalyzed Acid-Assisted Hydrogenation of Oximes to Hydroxylamines

Josep Mas-Rosello et al.

Summary: Cyclometalated cyclopentadienyl iridium(III) complexes are efficient catalysts in the hydrogenation of oximes, with alkoxy-substituted aryl ketimine ligands providing the best catalytic performance. The stable iridium C,N-chelation is crucial for the catalytic activity, and the hydrogenation system demonstrates high functional group compatibility.

Asymmetric Transfer Hydrogenation of Aryl Heteroaryl Ketones using Noyori-Ikariya Catalysts

Ye Zheng et al.

Summary: Aromatic ketones with ortho-substituents showed high enantioselectivity under asymmetric transfer hydrogenation conditions, while N-methylimidazole-containing ketones exhibited unexpected enantioselectivity switches upon variation of the opposing aromatic group. Pyrrole-containing ketones were found to be resistant to reduction in this study.

Transfer hydrogenation of N-heteroarenes with 2-propanol and ethanol enabled by manganese catalysis

Yingjie Gong et al.

Summary: A convenient manganese-catalyzed transfer hydrogenation method using alcohols as hydrogen sources for N-heteroarenes was presented. The use of a specific manganese pincer complex allowed for good to excellent isolated yields, with even biomass-derived ethanol being a viable option for the process. Detailed DFT calculations supported an outer sphere hydrogenation mechanism with hydride transfer as the rate-determining step.

Summary: This study presents a highly regioselective [3+2] cyclization of alkenes with 2-iodoanilines under UV light irradiation, facilitating the direct preparation of 2-mono-/disubstituted indolines and spiroindolines. Mechanistic studies suggest that the reaction proceeds through a radical pathway.
