Graphene supported single metal atom catalysts for the efficient hydrogen oxidation reaction in alkaline media

Lianming Zhao et al.

Summary: The study systematically explored the alkaline HOR performance of single noble metal and 3d transition metal atoms anchored on divacancy graphene and found that Pt/G and Ni/G single-atom catalysts show superior HOR activity and electrochemical stability compared to other considered M/Gs, making them promising candidates as anodic HOR electrocatalysts for AFCs.

Theoretical study of the alkaline hydrogen oxidation reaction on Ni-Based nanocluster Catalysts: Effects of graphene supports and dopants

Lianming Zhao et al.

Summary: Ni-based catalysts are promising for hydrogen oxidation reaction in alkaline fuel cells, but their optimization is hindered by unclear mechanism. This study shows that graphene support and B/N dopants can weaken H* adsorption and improve oxidation resistance of Ni-based catalysts. Tuning H* adsorption to accelerate HOR rate and regulating OH* adsorption to enhance antioxidant capacity are key for improving HOR performance.

Enhancing hydrogen oxidation electrocatalysis of nickel-based catalyst by simultaneous chemical anchoring and electronic structure regulation

Xiaoning Wang et al.

Summary: The synergistic chemical anchoring and electronic structure regulation strategy proposed in this work aims to achieve high electrocatalytic activity and stability for Ni-based HOR catalyst. The N-doped graphite nanoflakes (N-GFs) support with abundant N anchoring sites stabilizes the loading of Ni-based active species, while the rationally designed heterostructure in the active Ni3N/Ni promotes electron transfer across the heterointerface to optimize the binding energy of the reaction intermediates. The experimental results demonstrate that the Ni3N/Ni/N-GFs catalyst exhibits excellent mass activity and stability in HOR electrocatalysis, outperforming individual Ni or Ni3N.
