Tumor-Induced Osteomalacia

Pablo Florenzano et al.

Summary: Tumor-induced osteomalacia is a rare paraneoplastic syndrome caused by tumoral production of FGF23, characterized by hypophosphatemia, abnormal vitamin D levels, and elevated FGF23. Treatment includes surgical resection, medical therapy, and novel approaches, but locating the tumor can be challenging.

Impaired bone microarchitecture and strength in patients with tumor-induced osteomalacia

Maria Belen Zanchetta et al.

Summary: This study aimed to analyze bone microarchitecture and estimated bone strength in patients with tumor-induced osteomalacia, revealing significant impairment in all bone microarchitecture parameters. Women with TIO had lower bone strength compared to healthy controls, while alkaline phosphatase levels showed negative correlation with microarchitecture parameters.

Diagnosis and Management of Tumor-induced Osteomalacia: Perspectives From Clinical Experience

Summary: TIO is a rare paraneoplastic syndrome caused by small endocrine tumors secreting FGF23, leading to musculoskeletal pain, fatigue, muscle weakness, and fractures. Prompt diagnosis of TIO requires laboratory tests, imaging, and surgical resection for cure. Awareness and education among healthcare professionals are crucial to improve management of this debilitating disease.
