Dynamical Entanglement and Cooperative Dynamics in Entangled Solutions of Ring and Linear Polymers

Davide Michieletto et al.

Summary: The study introduces a novel dynamical entanglement analysis (DEA) method to extract spatiotemporal entanglement structures from pairwise displacement correlation of entangled chains. Applying DEA to molecular dynamics simulations reveals a strong and unexpected cooperative dynamics between entangled chains, providing previously unnoticed insights into the dynamics of generic entangled polymers. The method is proposed to be useful in analyzing the dynamical evolution of entanglements in generic polymeric systems like blends and composites.

Influence of Ionic Interaction Strength on Glass Formation of an Ion-Containing Polymer Melt

Zhenyue Yang et al.

Summary: Extensive molecular dynamics simulations of ion-containing polymer melts show that both thermodynamic and dynamic properties are strongly influenced by ionic interaction strength, with characteristic temperatures of glass formation increasing linearly with increasing strength. Additionally, the growth of fragility with increasing ionic interaction strength is somewhat nonlinear. The string model of glass formation is found to provide an excellent description of the relationship between structural relaxation time and string length, indicating the potential of entropy theory in studying the glass formation of ion-containing polymers.

Effects of chain length on Rouse modes and non-Gaussianity in linear and ring polymer melts

Shota Goto et al.

Summary: The dynamics of ring polymer melts were studied using molecular dynamics simulations. Rouse-like behavior was observed in ring polymers, while a crossover from Rouse to reptation behavior was observed in linear polymers. Non-Gaussianity of ring polymers was found to be significantly suppressed at long chain lengths, in contrast to the growth in linear polymers.

Chain and Segmental Dynamics in Polymer-Nanoparticle Composites with High Nanoparticle Loading

Emily Y. Lin et al.

Summary: Recent studies have shown that polymer-nanoparticle composites with ultra-high NP loading exhibit remarkable mechanical properties, and molecular dynamics simulations reveal that changes in polymer dynamics depend on the number of NPs in contact with a polymer segment, demonstrating a high level of dynamic heterogeneity in PNCs with ultra-high NP loading.

Spatial correlations of entangled polymer dynamics

Jihong Ma et al.

Summary: The study reveals that the spatial correlations of entangled polymer dynamics are similar to those of an unentangled system in functional forms, but exhibit a long tail in reciprocal-space correlations, indicating dynamic localization. Existing theoretical models fail to fully describe these spatial correlations, and the one-dimensional diffusion concept of the tube model is shown to be flawed.

Spatiotemporal mapping of mesoscopic liquid dynamics

Zhiqiang Shen et al.

Summary: The study of liquid dynamics at mesoscopic scales is challenging, but modern computational techniques and novel experimental methods have enabled a better understanding of the complexity and mechanisms involved. Through the spatiotemporal mapping method, one can comprehensively analyze the characteristics of mesoscopic dynamics in liquids, revealing the roles of various mechanisms such as molecular relaxation, hydrodynamic modes, and nonhydrodynamic excitations.
