Moisture-stimulated reversible thermochromic CsPbI3-xBrx films: In-situ spectroscopic-resolved structure and optical properties

Long Yuan et al.

Summary: A composition-dependent, moisture-stimulated reversible thermochromic phenomenon was observed in CsPbI3-xBrx (0 <= x <= 2) films, with color changing from black to dark red for the H-T phase and from yellowish-gray to reddish-gray for the L-T phase. The transition temperature points and optical parameters of the films were found to be influenced by the I/Br ratio and temperature, providing important insights for the design of optical and thermochromic devices.

Resonance Raman and polarized Raman scattering of single-crystal hematite

C. P. Marshall et al.

Summary: Researchers have found that the Raman spectra collected on hematite nanoparticles undergo intensity enhancement when excited with energy close to the band gap. However, the resonance Raman scattering mechanism for this enhancement is not clear. This study examined the polarization Raman scattering on single-crystal hematite to better understand the resonance enhancement mechanism. The results suggest that the Frohlich LO phonon interaction dominates the Raman scattering, while the deformation potential contribution is weaker.

Reversible Thermochromic Superhydrophobic BiVO4 Hybrid Pigments Coatings with Self-Cleaning Performance and Environmental Stability Based on Kaolinite

Xiaowen Wang et al.

Summary: Inspired by nature, a novel reversible thermochromic superhydrophobic coating was designed by combining the surface roughness of kaolinite/BiVO4 hybrid pigments and modification with hexadecyltrimethoxysilane. This coating exhibited self-cleaning properties, environmental stability, and reversible thermochromic behavior, showing promising applications in temperature sensors and switches.

Mo center dot ssbauer spectroscopy of superparamagnetic Fe3O4 nanoparticles

H. Y. Hah et al.

Summary: Mono-disperse iron oxide nanoparticles synthesized by high-temperature hydrolysis were studied using Mo center dot ssbauer spectroscopy, revealing a critical diameter of around 11 nm for room temperature superparamagnetism. Particles larger than 11.9 nm exhibited ferrimagnetic properties, while particles smaller than 10.6 nm showed superparamagnetism.

Predicting the Optical Pressure Sensitivity of 2E → 4A2 Spin-Flip Transition in Cr3+-Doped Crystals

Michele Back et al.

Summary: Understanding the role of material chemistry in increasing the pressure sensitivity of new optical pressure probes is crucial in scientific research. Ruby remains the standard pressure probe in diamond anvil cell experiments worldwide, despite being proposed almost 50 years ago. Analyzing Cr3+-based pressure sensors in terms of crystal field, nephelauxetic effect, and bulk modulus can help predict highly sensitive optical pressure sensors.

Spectroscopic and theoretical investigation on the origin of color in jarosites

Kashifa Fazl-Ur-Rahman et al.

Summary: This study investigates the electronic spectra of Fe3+, Cr3+, and V3+ ions in jarosites, attributing the spectra to the tetragonal distortion of the coordination symmetry of the ions in the crystal rather than spin forbidden transitions. The electronic term symbols are determined using ab initio and DFT methods, and the calculated bandgaps support the low symmetry at the metal center.

In situ thermal, optical, and structural investigations on reversible thermochromism in bismuth molybdate

Liangmiao Zhang et al.

Summary: Novel bismuth molybdate materials exhibit reversible thermochromism, with color changing from milky white to bright yellow as the temperature increases. The phase composition of the product can be adjusted by changing the ratio of Bi2O3 and MoO3 in the starting materials, leading to either single phase or mixed phases. The mechanism of reversible thermochromism in bismuth molybdate materials is mainly attributed to lattice expansion and shrinking upon heating and cooling.

K. Kniec et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the potential of Fe3+ ion as a sensitive luminescence thermometry in aluminate hosts and proposes different modes of luminescence thermometry. By selectively changing the Fe-O bond distances, the relative sensitivity in CaAl4O7:Fe3+,Tb3+ can be modulated to values as high as around 2% K-1, with connected relative temperature uncertainties of around 0.3%.
