Krylov complexity in saddle-dominated scrambling

Budhaditya Bhattacharjee et al.

Summary: In this work, the exponential growth of Krylov complexity in an integrable system with saddle-dominated scrambling is investigated. The results show that this phenomenon is not limited to chaotic systems, but can also be observed in integrable systems.

Excited-state quantum phase transitions

Pavel Cejnar et al.

Summary: The paper reviews the effects of excited-state quantum phase transitions (ESQPTs) in interacting many-body systems with finite numbers of collective degrees of freedom. It classifies typical ESQPT signatures in the spectra of energy eigenstates with respect to the underlying classical dynamics, outlining a variety of quantum systems in which they occur. The thermodynamic and dynamic consequences of ESQPTs, like those in microcanonical thermodynamics, quantum quench dynamics, and in the response to nearly adiabatic or periodic driving are described. Suggestions for generalizations of the ESQPT concept in periodic lattices and in resonant tunneling systems are also mentioned.

Quantum many-body scars and weak breaking of ergodicity

Maksym Serbyn et al.

Summary: Thermalization is the inevitable fate of many complex quantum systems, but recent discoveries have shown the existence of a new type of behavior called quantum many-body scarring, where the system rapidly relaxes for most initial conditions, yet certain initial states display non-ergodic dynamics. This phenomenon, similar to scars observed in single-particles in specific potentials, has potential applications in quantum technology.

Dynamical phase transitions in the fully connected quantum Ising model: Time period and critical time

Arun Sehrawat et al.

Summary: The study focuses on the dynamical properties of the finite-size fully connected Ising model with a transverse field at zero temperature, analyzing the behavior of time period and critical time based on different initial spin states and dynamical critical points. Estimates for finite-size scaling and converged value, as well as a comparison of energy gaps and entanglements between approximate ground and first excited states, are also provided.

Stroboscopic aliasing in long-range interacting quantum systems

Shane P. Kelly et al.

Summary: This study unveils a mechanism for generating oscillations with arbitrary multiplets of the period of a given external drive in long-range interacting quantum many-particle spin systems. These oscillations break discrete time translation symmetry like time crystals and are understood through two intertwined stroboscopic effects similar to aliasing in video recordings. The stroboscopic aliasing is robust to detuning and excursions from a chosen set of driving parameters, providing a novel route for engineering dynamical n-tuplets in long-range quantum simulators.
