Tailor-Engineered 2D Cocatalysts: Harnessing Electron-Hole Redox Center of 2D g-C3N4 Photocatalysts toward Solar-to-Chemical Conversion and Environmental Purification

Grayson Zhi Sheng Ling et al.

Summary: Solar photocatalysis using metal-free graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) is an appealing technique for sustainable energy generation and pollution-free environment. However, the low-dimensional structure of g-C3N4 hinders its performance due to slow reaction kinetics and rapid recombination of photogenerated carriers. This review focuses on the engineering of 2D cocatalysts to improve the efficiency and stability of g-C3n4, and provides insights into the charge dynamics and structure-performance relationship.

Formation of magnetic anionic electrons by hole doping

Jingyu He et al.

Summary: We propose a new material, ZrCl2, which can be easily exfoliated and shows a nonmagnetic-magnetic phase transition at a specific doping concentration in the monolayer form. Through theoretical calculations and simulations, we investigate the mechanism of magnetism in doped ZrCl2 and confirm the properties of these magnetic anionic electrons. Our results demonstrate the potential of electric-field controllable magnetism in electronic materials, with potential applications in spintronics.

Tunable magnetism in ferroelectric α-In2Se3 by hole-doping

Chang Liu et al.

Summary: Hole-doping can induce robust ferromagnetism in 2D ferroelectric alpha-In2Se3, and the material's magnetic properties can be effectively modulated by factors such as doping concentration, strain, and number of layers. Furthermore, strong magnetoelectric coupling is found at the surface of hole-doped multilayer alpha-In2Se3, enabling nonvolatile electric control of magnetization. This research provides a promising approach for designing and searching for 2D multiferroics with potential applications in memory devices and sensors.

Ni(NCS)2 monolayer: a robust bipolar magnetic semiconductor

Yaxuan Wu et al.

Summary: The Ni(NCS)(2) monolayer is a robust bipolar ferromagnetic semiconductor with a moderate bandgap and a Curie temperature of 37 K. It remains ferromagnetic ordering under strain and electron doping, but ferromagnetic-to-antiferromagnetic phase transition occurs with high concentrations of holes doping. The monolayer may have promising potential for magnetic nanoelectronic devices.
