Implementation of flexible virtual microchannels based on optically induced dielectrophoresis

Bo Li et al.

Summary: In this study, virtual electrodes based on optically induced dielectrophoresis (ODEP) were used as virtual microchannels for manipulation of micro-nano particles in liquid environments. The relationship between the manipulation force and the alternating current (AC) voltage or the AC frequency was analyzed. Virtual microchannels were designed for transportation, aggregation, and sorting of cells, and the survival rate of the cells was evaluated.

Isolation method of Saccharomyces cerevisiae from red blood cells based on the optically induced dielectrophoresis technique for the rapid detection of fungal infections

Mingao Du et al.

Summary: This study proposes a new method for isolating Saccharomyces cerevisiae from red blood cells using an optically-induced dielectrophoresis system. By designing specific light images and a dynamic separation mode, the researchers achieve high purity isolation of S. cerevisiae. This work provides a novel method for the timely diagnosis of fungal infections.

Purification of pluripotent embryonic stem cells using dielectrophoresis and a flow control system

Tetsushi Kiryo et al.

Summary: The study aimed to establish a cell sorting method for the purification of pluripotent stem cells (PSCs) based on their pluripotency using dielectrophoresis (DEP) and a flow control system. Mouse embryonic stem cells (mESCs) exhibited varying frequency dependencies in the DEP response, and mixed cell suspensions of mESCs can be effectively separated based on the variance in DEP properties.

Exploiting spectral information in Opto-Electronic Tweezers for cell classification and drug response evaluation

J. Filippi et al.

Summary: By exploiting the spectral information in Opto-Electronic Tweezers (OET) systems through machine learning, cell dielectric properties can be characterized for cell classification and drug response evaluation. The results demonstrate that OET can extract multiple levels of dielectric information, making it a promising tool for cell discrimination and drug response evaluation.

Improvement of Background Solution for Optically Induced Dielectrophoresis-Based Cell Manipulation in a Microfluidic System

Po-Yu Chu et al.

Summary: Optically induced dielectrophoresis (ODEP) is effective for cell manipulation but limited by low conductivity solutions. This study found that using sucrose solution in ODEP operation can decrease cell viability significantly. However, supplementing sucrose solution with bovine serum albumin (BSA) can improve cell viability and operational efficiency.
