Time-Course Transcriptomic Profiling of Floral Induction in Cultivated Strawberry

Jiahui Liang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the gene activity and regulatory mechanisms during the key period of floral induction in strawberries through transcriptome analysis. Several important genes involved in floral induction were identified, and a preliminary regulatory network was constructed. This provides potential candidate genes for future studies of flowering in strawberries.

Environmental regulation of dormancy, flowering and runnering in two genetically distant everbearing strawberry cultivars

R. Rivero et al.

Summary: The study found that dormancy in everbearing strawberry is regulated by a complex interaction of temperature, photoperiod, and chilling similar to seasonal flowering cultivars. Despite having opposite photoperiodic flowering requirements, everbearing cultivars exhibited the same short-day dormancy induction response as seasonal flowering cultivars. Additionally, chilling for six weeks at 2 degrees C was sufficient to reverse the constrained elongation of leaf petioles and flower trusses in dormant plants, but had little effect on flowering and runner formation.

Effects of Temperature and Photoperiod on the Flower Potential in Everbearing Strawberry as Evaluated by Meristem Dissection

Samia Samad et al.

Summary: The study used meristem dissection to investigate the effects of temperature and photoperiod on meristem development in everbearing strawberry cultivars. The results show that meristem dissection can be used to determine the timing of cropping peaks and evaluate yield potential.

Isolation and phenotypical characterization of the FT-like genes in strawberry (Fragaria x ananassa)

S. Sabbadini et al.

Summary: This study successfully isolated and characterized the homologous of the FLOWERING LOCUS T (FT) gene in octoploid strawberries through Agrobacterium-mediated transformation. Transgenic lines of 'Sveva' transformed with FvFT2 and FvFT3 genes showed significant differences in plant architecture compared to wild-type controls, and the overexpression of the two FT-like genes affected the balance between sexual/asexual reproduction patterns.

Gene expression profiling of leaves in conjunction with a floral bud differentiation process in cultivated strawberry 'Akihime'

S. Otagaki et al.

Summary: The study identified significant differences in gene expression profiles between the vegetative and reproductive stages of strawberry plants even in leaves through RNA-seq analysis. Nine potential biomarker candidates were identified that are highly expressed in leaves of strawberry plants at the reproductive phase but rarely expressed in leaves at the vegetative phase.

Juvenile runnering in F1 hybrid strawberry and its effect on inflorescence numbers

A. Dale et al.

Summary: The study suggests that selecting seedlings with four or fewer runners in F-1 hybrid day neutral strawberries can increase the number of inflorescences, reduce the number of runners, and increase the inflorescences plant(-1).

Winter manipulation of photoperiod and chill to enhance the perpetual flowering nature of 'Soprano'

N. Gallace et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of different chill regimes and photoperiods on the growth and fruit quality of everbearing plants. Manipulating winter conditions can lead to improved plant types, better fruit quality, and optimized perpetual flowering behavior.
