New insight on electroreduction of nitrate to ammonia driven by oxygen vacancies-induced strong interface interactions

Haibo Yin et al.

Summary: In this study, Ag/Cu2O hybrids prepared with oxygen vacancies were found to exhibit competitive activity for NH3 synthesis from NO3. The high performance of the hybrids was attributed to strong interface interactions between Ag nanoparticles and Cu2O, which enhanced the adsorption of NO3 and facilitated the formation of key intermediates in NH3 synthesis.

Ambient Ammonia Synthesis via Electrochemical Reduction of Nitrate Enabled by NiCo2O4 Nanowire Array

Qian Liu et al.

Summary: NiCo2O4 nanowire array on carbon cloth (NiCo2O4/CC) is proposed as a highly active electrocatalyst for ambient nitrate (NO3-) reduction to ammonia (NH3). It achieves a high Faradic efficiency of 99.0% and a large NH3 yield up to 973.2 mu mol h(-1) cm(-2). The superior catalytic activity comes from its half-metal feature and optimized adsorption energy due to the existence of Ni in the crystal structure.

Single Atom Ruthenium-Doped CoP/CDs Nanosheets via Splicing of Carbon-Dots for Robust Hydrogen Production

Haoqiang Song et al.

Summary: This study introduces a composite material design with CoP nanoparticles doped with Ru single-atom sites supported on carbon dots (CDs) single-layer nanosheets, forming Ru1CoP/CDs. The catalyst shows high efficiency for the hydrogen evolution reaction over a wide pH range and excellent stability and activity. Through density functional theory calculations, it was revealed that the substituted Ru single atoms enhance catalytic performance by lowering the proton-coupled electron transfer energy barrier and promoting H-H bond formation. This research presents a new approach for developing carbon-based hybridization materials with integrated electrocatalytic performance for water splitting.
