Dependence of average total kinetic energy of fission fragments on excitation energy of fissioning nucleus

V. Yu. Denisov et al.

Summary: The dependence of the average total kinetic energy of fission fragments on the excitation energy of the fissioning system is obtained in a simple model, and it is well described by experimental data for U-234, U-236, U-239, and Pu-240 nuclei. The origin of this energy dependence is discussed in detail in the study.

Super-Asymmetric Fission Mode in 254Fm Nucleus Populated by 16O + 238U Reaction

Tathagata Banerjee et al.

Summary: The mass-energy distributions of fission fragments of the FM-F-254 compound nucleus formed in the O-16 + U-238 reaction have been measured. The experimental data were described using the multimodal random neck-rupture model, and the channel probabilities and characteristics of different fission modes were obtained and discussed in detail. At a specific excitation energy, an enhancement in the mass yield of light fragments was observed, which can be explained by the influence of the Z=28 shell closure. The fission fragment mass distribution widths showed a linear dependence on the measured energies.

Comparison of fission and quasi-fission modes

C. Simenel et al.

Summary: Quantum shell effects play a significant role in mass equilibration and nucleon repartitioning of fragments in quasi-fission, potentially determining the final fission products. Future experimental studies are needed to confirm these observations and their implications for nuclear fission processes.

Observation of a fission mode with very short elongation for the neutron-rich 257Md nucleus at high excitation energy

A. Pal et al.

Summary: The mass and total kinetic-energy distributions of fission fragments from the Md-257 nucleus through the complete fusion of F-19 with U-238 have been measured in the range of excitation energy approximately 37-48 MeV. Experimental results show the existence of a significant supershort mode of fission for the Md-257 nucleus up to approximately 48 MeV, revealing deviations from liquid drop model predictions for neutron-rich exotic nuclei even at high excitation energies.
