Scattering of coherent light and coherent vortex beams propagating through a segment of a multi-mode fiber both produce speckle. Recognizing the orbital angular momentum of the incident vortex beam from the output speckle becomes significantly important for vortex beam study and mode division multiplexing, and deep learning is demonstrated as an efficient approach to address this problem.
It is well known that scattering of coherent light produces speckle. So does a coherent vortex beam when it propagates through a segment of a multi-mode fiber. While the speckle field contains a number of phase singularities, the problem of recognition of the orbital angular momentum of the incident vortex beam from the output speckle becomes significantly important for both the study of vortex beams and mode division multiplexing. Deep learning is demonstrated to be an efficient approach to address this problem.
