Photoelectrocatalytic Reduction of CO2 to Syngas via SnOx-Enhanced Cu2O Nanowires Photocathodes

Yang Zhang et al.

Summary: Controllable photoelectrochemical reduction of CO2 with H2O to syngas was achieved using Cu2O-SnOx hybrid nanowires photocathode, with total Faradaic efficiency of 90.32% at -0.35 V versus RHE. Electrodeposition of SnOx on Cu2O NWs enhanced charge transfer efficiency and CO2 adsorption capacity. Visible light irradiation accelerated accumulation of CO2 reduction intermediates for CO release.

Lithium Vacancy-Tuned [CuO4] Sites for Selective CO2 Electroreduction to C2+ Products

Chen Peng et al.

Summary: Utilizing an electrochemical delithiation strategy, a lithium vacancy-tuned Li2CuO2 catalyst was developed to enhance the efficiency and selectivity of electrochemical CO2 reduction to valuable multi-carbon (C2+) products. The introduction of lithium vacancies led to improved CO-CO coupling, resulting in a high Faradaic efficiency of 90.6 +/- 7.6% for C2+ and an outstanding partial current density of -706 +/- 32 mA cm(-2) under certain conditions. This work demonstrates a promising approach to produce controllable alkali metal vacancy-tuned Cu catalytic sites for C2+ products in electrochemical CO2 reduction.

All-solution processed CuGaS2-based photoelectrodes for CO2 reduction

Juliana Ferreira de Brito et al.

Summary: An all-solution approach was presented to fabricate nanocrystalline film of the ternary chalcopyrite for photoelectrochemical CO2 reduction. Despite interesting results, doping with In and Bi caused defects in the absorber layer, affecting the stability and performance of the photocathode in CO2 reduction. Meanwhile, the Mo/CuGaS2/CdS/TiO2 photocathode showed promising stability and reproducibility for CO2 reduction.

Plasmon-Enhanced Charge Separation and Surface Reactions Based on Ag-Loaded Transition-Metal Hydroxide for Photoelectrochemical Water Oxidation

Xingming Ning et al.

Summary: Coating photoanodes with transition-metal hydroxides (TMH) is a promising approach for improving photoelectrochemical (PEC) water oxidation. Effective charge separation and enhanced surface catalysis dynamics are achieved through decoration of plasmon metal (Ag) in a semiconductor/TMH coupling system for PEC water splitting. The study provides a guiding design method for solar energy conversion with the semiconductor-TMH system, demonstrating the universality of the approach.
