Strong nanozymatic activity of thiocyanate capped gold nanoparticles: an enzyme-nanozyme cascade reaction based dual mode ethanol detection in saliva

Syed Rahin Ahmed et al.

Summary: This article discusses the strong nanozymatic activity of thiocyanide capped gold nanoparticles (TC-AuNPs) and their application in detecting ethanol levels in saliva. The research confirmed the ability of TC-AuNPs to generate hydroxyl radicals, which can be utilized for alcohol detection and potentially in biosensing and bioimaging applications. Novel colorimetric and electrochemical assays were developed to detect ultra-low levels of ethanol, showing potential for use in various fields.

Nanozymes with reductase-like activities: antioxidant properties and electrochemical behavior

Nataliya Stasyuk et al.

Summary: Nanozymes, as stable and cost-effective mimics of natural enzymes, have promising applications in food and environmental biotechnology, biosensors, alternative energy, and medicine. This research focused on the synthesis of metal-based Nanozymes via chemical methods and their antioxidant ability in solution. The most effective reductase-like Zn/Cd/Cu Nanozyme was characterized and shown to mimic selenite reductase. Additionally, an amperometric sensor with high sensitivity and a broad linear range for selenite ions was successfully constructed.

A Novel Amperometric Biosensor Based on Poly(allylamine hydrochloride) for Determination of Ethanol in Beverages

Oana Maria Istrate et al.

Summary: In this study, a new ethanol biosensor based on a modified electrode with poly(allylamine hydrochloride) and immobilized alcohol dehydrogenase in a sol-gel matrix was developed and optimized for parameters such as applied potential, pH, NAD(+) concentration, and storage conditions. The biosensor showed a wide response range from 0.05 to 2 mM with a high sensitivity of 13.45 ± 0.67 μA/mM•cm2 and a low detection limit of 20 μM. Furthermore, the developed biosensor demonstrated accurate detection of ethanol in commercial beverages.
