Baicalin promotes the activation of brown and white adipose tissue through AMPK/PGC1a pathway

Yanqing Zhang et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that baicalin (BAI) can limit weight gain, improve glucose tolerance, enhance cold tolerance, and promote brown-like tissue formation in diet-induced obesity mice. BAI increases mitochondrial copy number and activates the AMPK/PGC1 alpha pathway, leading to the upregulation of UCP1 and other browning-related genes in brown adipose tissue and white adipose tissue.

The pentose phosphate pathway mediates hyperoxia-induced lung vascular dysgenesis and alveolar simplification in neonates

Jiannan Gong et al.

Summary: The study showed that hyperoxia can exacerbate abnormal endothelial cell proliferation and dysmorphic vascular growth in neonatal mice through the pentose phosphate pathway (PPP), while inhibition of the PPP can reduce these effects.

Capillary Changes Precede Disordered Alveolarization in a Mouse Model of Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia

Svenja Appuhn et al.

Summary: The study conducted on neonatal mice exposed to different oxygen concentrations revealed that disrupted vascular development may lead to impaired alveolarization, supporting the vascular hypothesis of BPD. Alveolar capillary network in hyperoxia-exposed mice showed rarefaction and altered geometry, with effects on alveolar epithelium and capillary endothelium appearing at different time points. These findings provide valuable insights into the pathogenesis of BPD.

Baicalin Inhibits NLRP3 Inflammasome Activity Via the AMPK Signaling Pathway to Alleviate Cerebral Ischemia-Reperfusion Injury

Wen-Xia Zheng et al.

Summary: Baicalin can reduce the activity of the NLRP3 inflammasome through activation of the AMPK signaling pathway, thereby inhibiting cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury.

Baicalin alleviates chronic obstructive pulmonary disease through regulation of HSP72-mediated JNK pathway

Dexun Hao et al.

Summary: Baicalin was found to improve lung function by reducing inflammatory cell infiltration and levels of Muc5AC, TNF-alpha, IL-6, and IL-8 in mice. It also increased cell viability, inhibited apoptosis, and decreased levels of inflammatory cytokines in MLE-12 cells. Baicalin upregulated HSP72 expression, which in turn inhibited JNK signaling activation, ultimately alleviating COPD.
