Estimation of the Periodontal Inflamed Surface Area by Simple Oral Examination

Yoshiaki Nomura et al.

Summary: A convenient partial examination method to estimate Periodontal Inflamed Surface Area (PISA) was established in this study by selecting specific teeth for measurement and estimating the inflammation status based on the correlation of the measured values with the patient's overall PISA.

Correlation of periodontal inflamed surface area with glycemic status in controlled and uncontrolled type 2 diabetes mellitus

Krishna Anil et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the proportion of periodontitis and the correlation of periodontal inflamed surface area (PISA) with glycemic status in controlled and uncontrolled type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients with and without microvascular complications. It was found that uncontrolled T2DM patients had a higher proportion and severity of periodontitis, and there was a significant positive correlation between PISA and HbA1c levels, with a dose-response relationship observed.
