On inter-organizational trust, control and risk in transboundary fisheries governance

Gordon M. Hickey et al.

Summary: This paper discusses the importance of inter-organizational collaboration in transboundary fishery governance, using the North Atlantic Salmon Conservation Organization as a case study to analyze the impact of trust, control, and perceived risk on alliance collaboration performance. Future research needs to further understand how managerial strategies and control mechanisms facilitate the establishment of interorganizational trust in transboundary governance settings and mitigate the perceived risks of collaboration.

Summary: Fishers underreported salmon catch, but deterrence-based intervention and SMS reminders were effective in increasing compliance, highlighting the complementarity of nudges and command-and-control interventions in increasing compliance with catch reporting requirements.
