Improving konjac glucomannan-based aerogels filtration properties by combining aerogel pieces in series with different pore size distributions

Kao Wu et al.

Summary: The pore size distribution of konjac glucomannan (KGM)-based aerogels plays a key role in air filtration efficiency and resistance. Increasing the total solid concentration leads to smaller pore size and decreased porosity in the aerogels. By preparing aerogel stacks with different pore size distributions, filtration efficiency can be improved while reducing air resistance.

Green fabrication of flexible aerogels from polypropylene fibers for heat insulation and oil/water separation

Nga H. N. Do et al.

Summary: Hydrophobic polymer-based aerogels were successfully developed from polypropylene fibers for heat insulation and oil spill treatments. These aerogels exhibit low density, high porosity, flexibility, good heat insulation, water repellency, and high oil absorption capacity, attributed to their porous hollow structure. The oil absorption of polypropylene aerogels in this study is significantly better than previous research and comparable to commercial absorbents and other polymer aerogels.

Investigation of Microstructures and Air Permeability of Aerogel-Coated Textile Fabric Materials

A. Fonner et al.

Summary: This study successfully fabricated aerogel-coated macroporous polyester fabrics for the filtration of nanometric airborne particles, showing high air permeability and filtration efficiency. The coating process using syndiotactic polystyrene (sPS) was found to be more suitable, with surface pores closure during handling of gel-coated fabrics being recovered later via solvent annealing. The resultant materials exhibited high filtration efficiency (> 99.95%) for airborne sodium chloride test particles of size 25 to 150 nm.
