Crystal-Field Engineering Control of an Ultraviolet-Visible-Responsive Near-Infrared-Emitting Phosphor and Its Applications in Plant Growth, Night Vision, and NIR Spectroscopy Detection

Yunpeng Zhou et al.

Summary: This study comprehensively evaluates broadband near-infrared (NIR) phosphors with wide-ranging applications in food inspection, health management, plant growth, and night vision. The introduction of Ga3+ in the NIR phosphors increases the spectral coverage and significantly improves the full-width at half-maximum (FWHM) of the NIR spectrum. Experiments demonstrate that a sunlight-converting film made with BaMgGa3Al7O17:0.02Cr(3+) promotes the growth of Chlorella, while a NIR pc-LED based on BaMgGa3Al7O17:0.2Cr(3+) and a 395-nm LED chip shows promise for NIR spectral detection and night-vision technology.

Enhanced thermal stability and afterglow performance in Sr2Ga2-xAlxSiO7:Ce3+ phosphors via band gap tailoring

Rongfu Zhou et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the regulation of Al3+/Ga3+ on Sr-2(Ga,Al)(2)SiO7:Ce3+ phosphors to enhance the photoluminescence and persistent luminescence performances of Ce3+. The replacement of Al3+ results in a shift in emission band towards longer wavelength, improved thermal stability of emission, and stronger intensity and longer lifetime of persistent luminescence of Ce3+. Insights into the structure-luminescence relationship are discussed, including the influences on the structure, transition energies of Ce3+, and trap distributions. The increase of band gap is found to tune trap depths and change persistent luminescence performances, making the optimized Sr-2(Ga,Al)(2)SiO7:Ce3+ phosphors potentially applicable in optical storage.

Crystal structure and optical performance analysis of a new type of persistent luminescence material with multi-functional application prospects

Songsong Ding et al.

Summary: Persistent luminescence (PersL) materials have broad application prospects in various fields, but studies on their types, performances, and mechanism are still insufficient. This research successfully synthesized a yellow PersL material CaSrGa4O8 (CSG) and improved its afterglow brightness and duration through co-doping. The samples also demonstrated excellent performances in mechanical luminescence, photostimulated luminescence, and cathodoluminescence. Additionally, an anti-counterfeiting label was designed, revealing the potential of their application in anti-counterfeiting.

Effective Repeatable Mechanoluminescence in Heterostructured Li1-xNaxNbO3: Pr3+

Xiuxia Yang et al.

Summary: Mechanoluminescence (ML) is achieved through mechanical to optical energy conversion. The synthesis of Li0.5Na0.5NbO3: Pr3+ effectively couples trap structures and piezoelectric property to realize highly repeatable ML performance without traditional preirradiation process. Doping of Na+ ions in LiNbO3 optimizes trap distributions and concentrations, improving electron transfer efficiency to promote ML performances.

A High Efficiency Trivalent Chromium-Doped Near-Infrared-Emitting Phosphor and Its NIR Spectroscopy Application

Yunpeng Zhou et al.

Summary: This work presents an ultrawide near-infrared emission phosphor Ca3Sc2Si3O12: Cr3+, showing an emission range from 650 to 900 nm under 460 nm excitation. The introduction of Ce3+ as a sensitizer contributes to the improvement of absorption efficiency of Cr3+, demonstrating excellent thermal stability and efficient energy transfer. The near-infrared pc-LED based on this phosphor exhibited high output power and demonstrated excellent performance in penetrating human tissues.

Enhancing Light and X-Ray Charging in Persistent Luminescence Nanocrystals for Orthogonal Afterglow Anti-Counterfeiting

Kai Huang et al.

Summary: This study presents a simple method to enhance the afterglow intensity of persistent luminescence nanoparticles (PLNPs) and maintain their uniform size and morphology through nanoscale atomic level substitution. Additionally, a light/X-ray orthogonally encrypted spatio-temporal dual-dimensional afterglow anti-counterfeiting technique is demonstrated using these nanoparticles, as the two excitations (light and X-ray) are independent of each other.

X-ray-charged bright persistent luminescence in NaYF4:Ln3+@NaYF4 nanoparticles for multidimensional optical information storage

Yixi Zhuang et al.

Summary: Monodispersed nanoscale NaYF4:Ln(3+) nanoparticles with surface-passivated core-shell structures exhibit intense X-ray-charged persistent luminescence and narrow-band emissions tunable from 480 to 1060 nm. The mechanism for persistent luminescence in NaYF4:Ln(3+) is proposed through thermoluminescence measurements and the host-referred binding energy (HRBE) scheme, suggesting the role of lanthanide ions as effective electron traps. These uniform and spherical nanoparticles are dispersible in solvents, enabling new applications such as 3-dimensional optical information storage and inkjet-printing multicolor persistent luminescent nanoparticles.
