Structural, optical, and mechanical properties of TiO2 nanolaminates

Lilit Ghazaryan et al.

Summary: The study focuses on the structural, optical, and mechanical properties of TiO2 nanolaminate films grown using plasma-enhanced atomic layer deposition. By adjusting the ratio of TiO2/Al2O3 and TiO2/SiO2, high refractive index coatings with low optical losses, low roughness, and low mechanical stress were achieved. The introduction of ultra-thin amorphous layers effectively suppressed the crystallization of TiO2 films, resulting in reduced roughness and mechanical stress.

Hybrid Dielectric Metasurfaces for Enhancing Second-Harmonic Generation in Chemical Vapor Deposition Grown MoS2 Monolayers

Franz J. F. Loechner et al.

Summary: The integration of an ultrathin monolayer of transition metal dichalcogenide (TMD MoS2) with a silicon metasurface enhances the nonlinear response of the hybrid system. Enhanced efficiency of second-harmonic generation is experimentally observed, and optimized conditions for the spatial distribution of local optical fields are identified through comparison of different photonic resonances. This research enables precise design of hybrid structures for future applications.

Silicon nitride waveguides with directly grown WS2 for efficient second-harmonic generation

Ning Liu et al.

Summary: The direct growth of large-area homogeneous monolayer WS2 via physical vapor deposition onto Si3N4 waveguides significantly enhances second-harmonic generation, endowing Si3N4 integrated photonics with new nonlinear optical properties. This method, compatible with large-scale integrated photonic fabrication, lays the foundation for on-chip integrated optical fabrication and applications.

Tunable exciton-polaritons emerging from WS2 monolayer excitons in a photonic lattice at room temperature

L. Lackner et al.

Summary: Researchers demonstrated lattice polaritons with excitons in a WS2 monolayer strongly coupled to an imprinted photonic lattice in a tunable open optical cavity at room temperature, showing reconfigurability over a spectral window exceeding 85 meV and systematic variation of nearest-neighbor coupling. The technology presented in this work is a critical step towards reconfigurable photonic emulators operated with non-linear photonic fluids, offering simple experimental implementation and working at ambient conditions.

Direct Growth of Hexagonal Boron Nitride on Photonic Chips for High-Throughput Characterization

Evgenii Glushkov et al.

Summary: The article introduces a new method of directly growing 2D materials on silicon nitride chips and optically characterizing defects, compares the advantages and disadvantages of direct growth with standard wet transfer, and finds clear advantages of direct growth. This method is not only applicable to hBN, but can also be extended to other 2D materials.
