The effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on maternal health due to delay in seeking health care: Experience from a tertiary center

Summary: The COVID-19 pandemic led to a 45.1% reduction in institutional deliveries, a 7.2 percentage point increase in high-risk pregnancies, and a 2.5-fold increase in pregnant women admitted to the intensive care unit. One-third of women had inadequate antenatal visits, primarily due to lockdown and fear of infection. The study center managed 32 symptomatic pregnant women with positive COVID-19 tests, resulting in good maternal and fetal outcomes.

Advantages and disadvantages of telemedicine during the COVID-19 pandemic era among physicians in Taif, Saudi Arabia

This challenging period could also be an opportunity to reassess early detection programs towards a more explicit, thoughtful, and just prioritization for populations historically experiencing cancer disparities. By careful planning and focusing on populations with the most to gain, we can positively impact cancer outcomes for all in the future.
